Golf Thread

I have entered in Club Championship, off 20 at the minute and newish member not played many comps. I have only entered to get experience of playing in comps and the course will be set up very hard I am told......I am just worried might piss other members off if I have shocker and put them off game.....was thinking of withdrawing. Anyone been in this position?

Mate don’t withdraw. Everyone golfer has gone through this stage . If it’s a Stableford pick up and get ready for the next hole . If it’s a Medal and you play shit , then forgot about winning it and treat it like a Stableford , pick up after you can’t score and start again on the next hole … . Hope it makes some sort of sense.
Just crack on and get experience of playing with other members in Comps .
You will be fine

I'd withdraw, it won't do your game any good. Where I play its single figures only then its done on a ballot so the lowest play if the tee times are over subscribed.
Why not follow the best players to see how they do it. Some of their talent may rub off on you. Good luck whatever you decide. My club's is this Sunday and I've not entered because my game is way off at the moment and I play off 5!

Just play mate. Everyone and I mean every-fucking-one has been through that stage. And do you know what, even if you and when you get down to 14-15, you’ll still feel the same nerves and still have the occasional shocker, as will your playing partners.

Is The Open going to be on the BBC or will it be Sky? I’ll be stuck in a quarantine hotel at the time so trying to sort my way of viewing.

Mate playing off 20 is a reasonable standard. As a member you've every right to be involved in the club comp, as long as your ettiquette is up to scratch you wont put anyone off even if you have a shocker. Play and enjoy it.
Good luck

Ha! Sounds like golf. I had one of the weirdest rounds I’ve ever played yesterday. Couldn’t hit the ball on the front nine and managed 3 (yes three) full on, straight right, shanks and carded a 52. Stayed on the course despite wanting to drive home and cry and played a 38 on back 9 for a semi-respectable 90.

The heat and humidity are a killer at the minute in the summer months though. It’s 42 with humidity at 80% and a feels like of 48 and yet I still saw some weird fucker walking the course.

Had similar to this yesterday. Front nine, shot 52, back 9 shot 39. Didn’t help that the front nine, the rough was basically a water hazard. One foot into it and the ball was a goner, hadn’t lost a ball in about ten rounds, lost five by the seventh hole!

Its a recurring theme for me though. Think I need to do a bit more practice before teeing off as it seems to be taking me nine holes to sort out how my game is that day and fix it!

FFS, a Clarkie shirley. But in case its not, if I ever felt like that I'd give it up immediately.
