Goodbye Mario? (merged)

I've slagged him, i'll admit it, only out of frustration though. All the daft things he did on the pitch like the sending off's and never realising the potential he had were why we all got frustrated at times.

He could of gone on to be a world beater with us, no doubt about that! Still he did some fantastic things in a blue shirt and for that i am grateful, just feels a shame that it has turned out this way. Heart warming to read those kind words from him about the club and us as fans. Wish him all the best in Milan and hope he can get his head down and become the fantastic footballer we all know he can be!

Yeah, good luck Mario. I thought I wouldn't be that arsed when he went but I am a bit!

6-1, and the assist never to be forgotten, also the ;-)

So you can't remember or find any posts on here in which anyone has said that they hate Balo.

Go back to the thread that appeared in the wake of his sending off against Dynamo Kiev and try and tell me some of the downright despicable comments on there weren't borne out of hatred for him.
You're quite bizarrely getting anger at a particular incident confused with hating a particular person. I 'hated' it when Lomas let the ball go out for a throw-in v Liverpool instead of crossing the fucking ball into the box, considering what was at stake. I didn't hate Lomas though, I was merely angry at the incident. Many-a-fan 'hated' things that Edghill did and he became the target of their anger each and every game, though if you asked them post-match i'm sure they will tell you that they didn't hate the man himself in the way you believe the word is meant.

No I'm not - I've just explained that I can excuse heat of the moment comments at an event on the pitch that has just happened but to carry it on for days later and then develop a permanent agenda (yes agenda, your favourite word) against that player is bang out of order, regardless of whether it's Edghill, Lomas, Balotelli, or Adrian Heath.

Just wondering.

The full Balotelli thread contained numerous examples, yes. But it needn't apply only to the word hate. The best way of telling was when he left. Those who said they weren't sorry he was leaving because they didn't rate him, but wished him well anyway, those people are genuine critics. The people who posted nothing but bitter snidey comments, and said shit like good riddance, those are the haters.

You didn't explain it in the post I replied to.

Mario Balotelli admits that leaving City was an emotional wrench but has vowed never to forget his time with the Blues.

After signing for Milan the Italian striker spoke candidly about his last day as a Premier League player, his relationship with Roberto Mancini and his love for "the best fans in England".

“For sure I will remember my brilliant team-mates, the manager and all the supporters. They are the best, they were great with me and I will always have a very special place in my heart for City, it’s a great club with a great future,” he declared. “I thank them for all of their support of me. Maybe one day we will see each other again.

"I think to win the Premier League was a very special moment, and I am proud to have been a part of that.

"Also the 6-1 at Old Trafford was also a big moment in my life.I know what it meant to the supporters, the joy it gave them. To have scored in that game and been part of that history will always live with me"
...Mario Balotelli...

Balotelli said goodbye to his teammates at the pre-match dinner in the hotel ahead of the 0-0 draw at QPR and admitted it had been a poignant moment.

“Yes, I said goodbye to everyone at the meal in London before the game at Queens Park Rangers. It was a very emotional for me,” he said

“I spoke with Roberto before I went to speak to the players. We spoke for some time about lots of things. He was sad, and I was too. But it was a good conversation. I love Roberto, he has been very important for my career, and I will always thank him for having trust and faith in me.

“Being at City was an important part of my life and career. I needed to grow up like a player and as a person and it has been a very good experience for me.

As Balotelli touched down to join Nigel de Jong at the San Siro, he paid tribute to the City supporters for making him feel so welcome at the Etihad Stadium.

“I will remember, too, the song that City fans had for me. It was special for me and I always liked to hear it. I hope they can still sing it sometimes still, even if I’m not there. Someone told me the fans sang it at QPR; that is nice.

"I love the fans at Manchester City, they are the best in England, maybe the world"
...Mario Balotelli...

“I will always be interested in Manchester City and their fortunes. I really hope that City can win the league again this year and beat United. I think there are great players at the Club and a great manager too. The club will be very successful in the future and that makes me happy.”

Roberto Mancini admitted that the 22-year old will be missed and wished him all the best in this new chapter of his career.

“With Mario we won the FA Cup, we won the Premier League and the Community Shield," Mancini said.
I thank Mario for all his contribution to the team, I think hes an imortant player for the history of the club-" ...Roberto Mancini...

“We are very sorry for him because he leaves the club but we hope Mario can continue to improve and continues to work hard because he is a top, top player.”

Not nit-picking. I responded to your post, during which you must have explained what you actually meant, which I obviously hadn't seen.

Pigeonho, serious question mate. Just how long do you intend to stay camped on this thread??? I know its a forum and all that but come off it, you and CookieMonster must be contenders for the most posts on this thread.

It was never *hate* as some people keep trotting out on here.Is this the new digital age celebrity thing, you either love or hate somebody or something?''Oh my God i have a zillion followers on facebook or twitter,i must be loved!''

What right minded supporter would hate a player playing for a club that they want to be succesfull? Not one. They might not rate him as highly as some,he might annoy them but every last one of them would wish that player did the business on the field and made the club a success.Every one.

It was never hate with Mario.....it was exasperation, pure and simple. He was the bright kid in class who messed about, frittering away his future while less gifted kids worked hard but could never be as succesful as he was, if only he would put a small amount of effort in,but in spite of everyone telling him this,he continues to mess about.

Too much too young based on an obvious talent but so far unfulfilled. He was a celebrity in his own head and in the head of thousands of fans caught up in the modern celebrity culture, where you can be a star just from a couple of appearances on the X factor, because you looklike one and act like one,but you can't actually sing aka Frankie whatever his name was,or Rylan.

Now Mario did have talent. He had it all in abundance.Getting him to cross the white line and show it on matchdays was another matter.Getting him to turn up on time and train hard another problem.Trusting him not to throw a tantrum or lose his rag and get sent off yet another failing.

In the end the man who trusted and loved him the most got it thrown back in his face so many times even he had to admit defeat and so the story ends at City.

At 22 years of age it is now or never for Mario. He has in effect failed at two high profile football clubs in Inter and City,no matter how you gloss it over.He has his dream move and club in the country he calls home and is surrounded by friends and family. He either stops stops messing about and becomes the world class footballer everyone believes he can be,or he carries on being the class clown more famous for his off field activities. His choice and his alone.

They will still get more butts than ashtrays. The amount of clunge they probably dipped into between them is probably in the 1000s.

That was just a tongue in cheek one towards Diddy, who based on his reply has took it as such, so chill!!!
