There's no doubt in my mind that Liverpool are playing the best at the moment. But fortunately they are a few points back and they can't score more than 3 points per game no matter how well they play.

We on the other hand don't need to keep battering teams 6-0, marvellous though it is to see, we just need wins, and we have more than enough quality to win against most teams provided we focus and don't give it a half arsed effort as we have seen on occasion. In all the games we've lost this season, we have looked decent when we thought "Oh shit, we'd better get our finger out here", but sometimes we left it too late. Foot full on the gas from the start in every game from now on please.

So it's in our own hands to take the title no matter what Liverpool do. We just have to step up to the plate and do it.

Nail on head with that one, I think. Been the most notable change in a number of our games since January - before the turn of the year we were starting every match at a real lick and blitzing teams from the off, more recently we've gone back a bit towards last season's 'start every game at snail's pace' mode. Hit Fulham hard from the start and the game will be done by half-time. Same with the rags.

I read this post from a gooner just now over on Sad Cafe:

Our biggest chance is the cup, really.

I just think Liverpool might fall short by a few points. Chelsea are still favourites and City have a hard run-in so they might drop to 4th.

I was a bit shocked because I have been so focused on whether we will win it, or come 2nd to Chelsea. I hadn't even considered the possibility that we might drop down the table.

What's your thoughts on this? Is it conceivable we could finish 4th? What would be the ramifications if we did? Should there be any?

I really can't see us finishing 4th. With so many head-to-heads, I think it will eventually turn into a 2 horse race with City and one other.

Let's take the stats back 10 years. In the last 10 years a team that has been leading on points after 29 games has gone on to win the title - except one, which was us in our title winning season. If we think that stats give us much of an insight, this one clearly demonstrates that the PL winners are unlikely to be Liverpool.

There are so many anomalies throughout a football season, you can pick and choose which stats fit your argument. Bookies change the odds throughout the season for precisely this reason.

No-one (well only idiots) is suggesting that stats allow you to predict guaranteed, certain outcomes, especially in something as seemingly random as football. But perhaps you are struggling to understand (or to come to accept) that just because you can't predict things with certainty, predictions based on statistical analysis of previous results are not worthless.

Yes, they will be wrong sometimes. Often even. But they will more right more often than just random guesswork. That's all.

So how come with all these stats and figures to follow, you're on here and not wallowing on your yacht in the sunshine somewhere.

How do you now he isn't ?

He could be stretched out on his lounger, surrounded by large breasted, big bootied, butt-naked tanned babes all lotioned-up, all vying for Chippy's attention whilst he sips from his champagne glass and pushes them away saying : "Not just now girls, not now. I'm just putting one more post on this gooner thread and then game on !"

7 is what we'll get imho.

Wins against Fulham and trafford. Draw the gooners. I'd love to say a win at the gooners but we've beaten them away once in 30 odd years, so it's asking a bit much. We didn't outclass them at home, when we were playing at our very best, so i can't see us winning away on present form.

We'd better sort out our present form them. Which I think we will.

We've beaten them twice at the Emirates in the past few years, once in the league cup with that incredible breakaway goal and then in the league last year.
