can some one else please post on this. i dont want be the last person to comment on granite work tops at 12.17 on a friday night.

£15-20k is top of the range luxury stuff, for people who have £500k+ houses in general.

The companies that used direct sales, pressure sales etc and were not much better than MFI in quality (18mm MFC carcuses) have lost most of their business and staff already. I suppose windows, doors and all mass marketed home improvement are the same, but the bespoke stuff can survive if the reputation is good.

Thought it was gra-nit, as in nora.

A number of years ago a friend from Ghana tried to get me to front a company importing granite for grave stones, apparently at the time most of it was coming from India. Don't know if this is the same with kitchens.

I set-up a branch office for a NJ-firm over here that imported mainly from India. I had to learn a lot of the colours and countries the popular stones came from.

Absolute Black & Galaxy are Indian, as is New Imperial Red (three popular ones used a lot in commercial construction) but the green granites often come from South America, and the Pearl ones Scandinavia; the latter being some of the most expensive. China has some cheap stone, like India, and you can usually see all of these at any retailer or fabricator.

My original post about consumer advice is also about the poor after sales. I got Absolute Black granite worktops which cost £3000 and I have staining from water ingress from cups of tea etc. I did not think that water staining would be an issue as the product was being used in a kitchen. There are temporary remedies such as polishing in dyes which I'm happy to do but to get them to come out again has been difficult. I'm also going to tone down the lighting under the high level cupboards but I also got some good advice from EB and Steeviedblue who replied earlier.

Liking yours toby, nice oven. We've got the same clock in our kitchen. £30 from TK Maxx, I think it's the best bargain in that room and keeps really good time!
