Grealish attacked on the pitch(update p33)

I've heard one or two pundits and ex players suggesting that a points deduction would be the best deterrent. Bad idea. What's to stop a rival fan from another club pretending to be from the home side and commiting the same act?

I did initially think that myself but on reflection i think it's highly unlikely that the kind of gobshite that would do something like this would be able to pass themselves off as a fan of another club. I think it could be determined quite quickly via their match attendance history and social media etc who they really support and what their motivation is.

I think an appeal will be upcoming from the prosecution against the leniency of the sentence.

It is ridiculous talking about punishing the clubs. Many of them search and scan spectators. They employ stewards and police. It isn't their fault if some usually pissed and drugged up loon causes trouble.

They don't shut bars, clubs, shopping centres when someone is mugged, beaten up or stabbed there do they? Okay if there is persistent trouble at a particular venue they can revoke the licence. Given the millions of people that attend football.incidents like yesterday are very rare.

Darren Gough reckons ex service men should be stewards at the football

Not in itself a bad idea. Pay them a decent wage

But he then said it could help with PTSD.

Is he qualified to say such?

He was at the game with his dad
I can’t get my head round that at all
I thought he would be with a load of knobhead mates probably coked up and goaded into it
What was his dad doing to prevent his fuckwitted son jump onto the pitch?

Well he is only 27 so his dad could be as young as his early forties and possibly a loon too lol.

Serious question: Why do you think it is lenient ? The government have announced that they will be stopping all custodial sentences of 6 months or less. So next season a fan will not be going to prison for the same offence (if the daft cow is still in power and they push their idea through)

If it hasn't been listed, here's a story about a baseball coach who was attacked and suffered a permanent hearing loss. All the father and son who attacked him got was probation. Both have been utter fuck-ups since, of course (what a SHOCK). Within the piece is a reference to a baseball umpire who was attacked and the perp got six months in jail.

These sentences are all incredibly weak. We are talking about defenseless people doing their jobs, with a high level of incentive for asswipes to get their 15 minutes given broadcasting, plus a greater likelihood given alcohol consumption. Not a single person who loves sports would ever say a sentence greater than what all these have received is too harsh.
