For me it's not just the numbers, historic though they are, it's the type of team we've been and the way they've gone about it too.
The football is a given and mostly has been a joy to watch, anyone who thinks it's boring needs their heads testing.
It's often said all fans want players to do us put a shift in. Well we get that every single week in and week out, at a level of consistency I cannot ever remember seeing before. I love watching a multi-millionaire close down a player in the closing minutes of a game already well won because he knows that's what's expected. Some of our seemingly incredible intensity is actually because we play smart but nonetheless that intensity is still amazing.
Tied into to that is the fact that we're not in the least a dirty team. For all the nonsense talked about tactical fouls, our 'method' is to intimidate teams with our combined skills, workrate and tactics without the need for clogging. We don't need a nutter as our 'midfield general' instead we have one of the smartest and classiest footballers. Some of our players get kicked from pillar to post but though their team mates stick up for them we never go looking to hurt the opposition other than with football.
Not trying to turn a bunch of exceptionally well paid people, who've lived their lives in a man child bubble, into saints, but with the occasional noted exception our strategy to recruit in part in character has led to one of the most likeable teams of modern times. Most of them don't act like superstars and even our most headline grabbing son is someone who wears his heart endearingly on his sleeve and more to the point if there's any occasion where there's someone vulnerable or disadvantaged there you know they won't be neglected because he will have time for them. Many of our players can hold an intelligent conversation that belies the traditional stereotype of footballers. Apart from our captain's knob, no one or no thing seems wayward.
It's telling none of our youngsters come across as billy big bollocks because they are being brought up the right way and see the appropriate role models every day. Not sure that's true of all big clubs.
For all the guff that is talked about 'high performance teams' in the workplace, you see very few of them in the modern world where bullshit seems too often to substitute for excellence; but in City you have the poster child for that culture of excellence based on talent, hardwork, staying grounded, staying hungry and no little class. All enabled by a phenomenal leader. The trophies have been great but the process has been remarkable too.
