No it isn't, I was getting Moore wrong. I was thinking of Bruce Dickinson and Space Race off of his Skunkworks album. My mistake.

I know, I first found Gary Moore's solo stuff around the same time as I did with Bruce Dickinson solo stuff, so I mix them up sometimes in my head.

Funnily enough, the first ever GM track I heard was on the Parisienne Walkways album. At this time, I wasn't really that into the more melodic guitar music, and I'd not long started playing myself. I knew of GM because of his association with Thin Lizzy, knew he'd been solo for a while but nothing else.

As I say, around the same time, I started listening to BD and sometimes they sort of blend into one in my head.

Ah! The Back On The Streets album...I bought that and ELP, Pictures At An Exhibition with my first weeks wages from Sifters...Happy days!

All of the "G" guitarists are superb technically, but their music lacks a soul. Eric Johnson is a good example of this. He does have some beautiful melodies such as Desert Rose or Emerald Eyes but he just seems to twat mini solos or progression in there for no reason.
I refuse to believe that any of your very hard metal crowd is talented. There's no talent in my opinion in a bit of sweep or alternative picking.

Musically, I like parts of Hendrix and I don't like other parts, it depends on my mood. He was technically excellent and I guess if you were around at his time or understood the society, it would probably speak to you.

Personally, my favourite ever guitarist is Noel Gallagher. Whilst he may not be the most technically proficient, after watching him play a few times he has this weird kind of "can't be arsedness" about his playing, almost like it's too easy. He never seems to struggle with anything, yet his riffs are cool and his music speaks to me.

I wouldn't say he's the greatest however, just my personal favourite. I think for the greatest you have to look towards Jimmy Page. I can't think of anybody who was better technically or musically than him.
