Greatest Guitarist

To me, it doesn't matter. You could have a twelve inch dick and not nail anything for years. Too many of the aforementioned musicians fail to connect with me on a musical level. Hendrix, however, does.

Tommy Emmanuel is one of my favourite guitarist.

Although I would have to say Joe Pass is better, superb guitar player.

I'm not sure how to embed a video but this guy is brilliant as well.

Or if we are talking bass guitar then it's Mark King.

I know its all about opinion but I never got why people rate Mark King......All fur coat and no knickers if you ask me. Yes he can slap but its just noise. If its slap you like then there are much better exponents, if its the pop scene of that time you like then I would say Duran Duran had better bass playing. But for me Bass is about 2 players....Marcus Miller and John Entwistle

I almost forgot about Django Reinhardt.

To learn how to play the guitar, then have your hand damaged to the point where two of your fingers don't work anymore, then learn the whole thing again and be as good as he was at the guitar, I think that takes a lot of will power. He is a brilliant and inspiring guitar player and musician.

Opinions eh! If i wasn't at work i'd put a youtube video up of Mr King slapping away to his hearts content and it sounds in tune and everything!

Agree about Mr Entwistle though...

All of the "G" guitarists are superb technically, but their music lacks a soul. Eric Johnson is a good example of this. He does have some beautiful melodies such as Desert Rose or Emerald Eyes but he just seems to twat mini solos or progression in there for no reason.
I refuse to believe that any of your very hard metal crowd is talented. There's no talent in my opinion in a bit of sweep or alternative picking.

Musically, I like parts of Hendrix and I don't like other parts, it depends on my mood. He was technically excellent and I guess if you were around at his time or understood the society, it would probably speak to you.

Personally, my favourite ever guitarist is Noel Gallagher. Whilst he may not be the most technically proficient, after watching him play a few times he has this weird kind of "can't be arsedness" about his playing, almost like it's too easy. He never seems to struggle with anything, yet his riffs are cool and his music speaks to me.

I wouldn't say he's the greatest however, just my personal favourite. I think for the greatest you have to look towards Jimmy Page. I can't think of anybody who was better technically or musically than him.
