Greatest match of all time……….

Totally agree and I also accept all the comments about how poor the City v QPR game was, that said, I could (and still do) watch the 90 minutes of that game and end up with goosebumps and a tear in the eye....

UNBEATABLE!

It was really mediocre. The players have admitted it. They just weren't themselves.
Interestingly, there's a possible analogy eleven years further on, with the CL final. Players not playing the opponents, but the occasion.

I agree entirely, the game itself was below standard, though for me I was not particularly interested in the standard of football, the occasion and the ingredients that made the product.... goal swings, sending off, drama etc... meant for me at that time (and forever more) was the greatest game of all time.

A poor game was this years FA Cup final but I was overjoyed that we won it.... unlike the QPR game this game will be long forgotten after the first 12 seconds.

Oh, in terms of emotional investment, there is not — and there cannot be — another game like the QPR game for any blue, surely.
Other than, I suppose, Wembley and the Gillingham playoff. But I wasn't there for that.

Some great games then from around 1982-86.

Brazil v USSR 1982
Brazil v Italy 1982
France v W.Germany 1982
France v Portugal 1984
Denmark v Uruguay 1986
Brazil v France 1986.

France were great over that period. Some forget how good Platini was as a player, absolutely magnificent, one of the best in the World. As was Zico for Brazil - both coming to the end of great careers in the 86 World Cup.
Italy v Brazil was the one for me. That Brazilian team played some of the best football I have ever witnessed but were undone by Italian centre forward Paolo Rossi who had just recently returned from a 2 year football ban for his involvement in match fixing. His hatrick in that end to end 3-2 game played in searing heat is one of the most colourful games burned in my memory.

Alas Rossi, like many Italian footballers of the time, was a heavy smoker and he died of prematurely of lung cancer aged 64.

Brazil V France
World Cup 1/4 final 1986
1-1

So closely matched, it had to be decided on penalties. Was probably the best x22 of world class individuals seen collectively on a pitch imo, the skill levels were beyond anything seen previously. if you can, watch this game in its entirety again, it’s wonderful. Zico, Socrates, Junior and platini with tigana - what memories.
sadly, it ultimately showed how overhyped England players were and continue to be.
was a great game still can't believe Brazil keeper Carlos wasn't sent off

City v Monaco at the etihad was some game, that game could of easily finished 8-5, brilliant game of football
Or as SSN put it the next day ‘mistake after mistake at the Etihad’. Clearly if we were wearing red shirts it would have been an all time classic

Sick swan had it all.
Mario's pre match fireworks,Mario Why Always Me,5 goals for City in the second half, and that Silva pass for the last goal, then to top it off that Mancini face at the end.
In saying that Madrid at the Etihad will take some beating.
This season just ended?

I don’t think it could be classed as a great game, as it was too one-sided, especially the first half.

The Spanish rags came back in to it a little in the second half, but we were so dominant that a comeback was never on the cards.

I was lucky enough to be at both, as well as the Villa game at the end of the 21/22 season.
