Greatest match of all time……….

Watched quite a bit of the 1970 WC on replay over the years, but the quality isn't really all that in some ways. Probably because of the heat and altitude, as well as fitness levels, but it's slow and the players have so much space.

Nowadays there are games where there's hardly any space, or it's 100mph all game.

Watching replays of the 1982 WC feels like a good amount of space, plus quality.
I was still a kid... it was magical

That does add to it - and 1982 was my first, so I'm biased because of that too. My criticism is actually more based on the Brazil v England 1970 match tbh, which apart from the goal, Moore's tackle and Banks' save, was pretty average from what I could tell.

But, the colours, the sounds, the names.... All made it so special.

World Cups aren't as special nowadays because we know all the players and see everything they do. Back then, they were just legendary names, so there was great excitement when the WC would be on. It would often be the first chance you'd get to see great Brazilians etc.

Nowadays we can see highlights and full matches of kids before theyve even made the first team...

Argentina 2 France 1, 1978 World Cup group stage game. Had everything, with two teams going at each other from minute-one. Watched it live, starting late and not finishing until the early hours. Incredible game from two top international sides. Check out the reports online!
Great game. I watched it all the way through too until silly o' clock. Leopoldo Luque; what a player he was.

If you picking non City games then the 1970 World Cup semi final between Italy & West Germany. Without checking, Italy took the lead early in the first half and then proceeded to park the bus as only they can do. Germany created loads of chances but only equalised in the last minute. Extra time was completely different with five goals being scored in an end to end sequence.
Also famous for Beckenbauer, the Bavarian Johnny Stones, playing most of the game with a dislocated shoulder.

If you’re talking the ‘82 World Cup, nothing can beat the thrill a minute classic between West Germany and Austria.

Was that exciting it almost made me forget I was getting coshed on the head off the Spanish old bill every time I ventured within a 100 yards of a bar.

Easy - Real Madrid 7 Eintracht Frankfurt 3

Euro Cup Final in Glasgow 1960. The BBC showed it live (black & white) and I was transfixed. I'd never seen football like it.

Am I the only one to have seen it and raved over it?
