Greatest match of all time……….

Nope. I'm with you. It was shown to us at school, on film reels believe it or not. We just kept gasping. Never seen anything like it. This would have been in about ’67, I think.
That said, you have to wonder. The marking and general sophistication of defences in stifling creativity was nothing to do with today. Look carefully at the space Gento gets down the wing, for example. He has the freedom of the touchline.
Discovered the other day that Puskas never got the Ballon d'Or. Which, for me, seriously discredits that award.
Would love to have seen the two Hungary matches against England in the 50s. But that's really before my time. They were the wake-up call for England, apparently. The English finally understood that they had to start participating regularly in World Cups and European club competitions, and just generally get up to speed.
Did you see this at a seance?

The best game I have seen in my life. The intensity, the tension, the stakes, the teams, the home support - everything was just top notch. The dippers were a worthy adversary to us that day and played their part in the spectacle. This was their only loss that season, so it was a worthy title decider. We absolutely had to win that match and everyone (players, staff and supporters) played their role magnificently.

The match had everything. The best goal-line clearance in the history of football, the most hard working performance by a player in a match (hats off to you Bernie, he ran some 14 kms that day, he was everywhere), Sane & Kun with two absolute beauties, Vinnie with a trademark crunching tackle on the crybaby Salah and then mocking him mercilessly for crying, Ferna with a masterclass in the defensive midfield position, Raheem leaving that c**t Robertson for dead on the run, the super tense finish of the match, Flopp moaning again in the post match conference.

We beat a very very good side that day and it proved to be the title decider after the dippers were again left behind by 1 point (or 11 mm).

Still wistful, even after all these years, about Brazil going out. That was the best Brazil team not to win a world cup, in my opinion. One that stands comparison, if not quite as great, with the 1970 team.
Italy did their usual efficient thing.
I loved that game.Cannot remember the Brazilian centre forwards name but he was the worst centre i have seen playing for Brasil.
They had a couple of great games in that world cup.
Russia and Scotland.A joy to watch but any other team would have struggled against an Italian team building up to the peak of their performances in that world cup.
A brilliant Italian side who i think still do not get the credit they deserve in beating Brazil that day.
