Grenfell Tower block disaster

I seriously doubt if any existing UK high rise building could take the weight of retrofitted water tanks to deliver enough water to allow people to escape. 1 cubic foot of water weighs 62.43 lbs. A small bedroom 10 x 20 x 8 = 1600 cubic feet = 101.488 lbs or 45.8 metric tonnes. Each flat wiuld be at least 11 times that with about 20 flats per floor is would be 10.076 tonnes.
Now I know sprinklers only operate in areas where one of the bulbs breaks but to deliver better fire protection than what "passive" delivers they would have to operate in a large chunk of the building.
I really do appreciate your sums here and your knowledge but it's 20 fucking 17, what does the above mean in metric?

I think only the US and North Korea are still using imperial.

Made my eyes water, that.

So many on here think about stuff in terms of numbers, like money, but there are real people doing real work that needs to be recognised and appreciated.

I don't often agree with you @Bigga but I do on this, heartbreaking to read that,
Must have been harrowing. Heard the firefighter on sky earlier and when he said a 5 year old told him his brother was dead.... Christ knows how they cope.

He's obviously worked out that it's impossible to put usable sprinkler systems into tower blocks, looks like a few of us have been wasting our time for years ;-)

Haha. I love the way on BM that somebody whose reads a couple of articles always knows more than the person whose being doing the job for years.
