Grenfell Tower block disaster

Ask Boris fucking Johnson that **** shut 10 stations in London
From watching the news, the first engines got there within six minutes but access was the problem as opposed to the amount of fire fighters in attendance.

Let's try and keep politics out of this thread whilst the situation is on going. There will be ample opportunity afterwards when the inquest to this tragedy is held.

Yeah, but only in the poor people's buildings, of course. That should be a manslaughter charge.
Trying to hold back my anger before we know the full facts but yes you're right. These are some of the poorest people in the richest borough of London. Yet somehow the money couldn't be found to even test a fire extinguisher. I'm glad that post went up in November as it will make any whitewashing of the facts a lot more difficult and surely people will have to be held to serious account.

The biggest problem seems to have been redecorating the outside cladding with something as fire retardant as paraffin.

There was a guy on ITV before that said the main purpose of the cladding (£10m worth) was aesthetics.

If so, then how can they find £10m for that but not enough for things like fire prevention and preparation?

They are about to clad my block in Blackley. Fucking hell.

We have no fire alarms in communal areas fuck all...never has been.

Neighbourhood manager was also the income manager so it's easy to see where the priorities lay:
Neighbourhood Manager & Income Manager for TMO
Kensington & Chelsea TMO
November 2011 – Present (5 years 8 months)

I am the Housing Manager for Lancaster West, however I was also asked to take over the Income Team in November 2012, therefore carry out a dual role. since takoing over the income team we have had over 100% collection rate for 18 months now, Februarys being 100.74%, how do ido it... keeping it real, making sure we cover the basics

You might be lucky, the fallout from this should hopefully see a lot of blocks like your own get their fire safety taken seriously.

From the coverage it seems like a fire like this somewhere in the country was only a matter of time with the lax standards being kept.

I live in London and of the the 5 places I've rented in that time, only one of them seemed to be up to scratch. If you complain, you're out, so they can move the next mug in and you can move into the next death trap.

Its a demonstration of greed beyond belief when you see rents going up at the current rates they are and yet landlords and management companies won't make the relatively tiny reinvestment required to guarantee a minimal level of safety. They've been blatantly getting away with breaking the law for ages now. This has to be the end of the line for these people now.

You know what, if that's true it will be a miraculous outcome.
They probably haven't even got to the top floors yet, but if it's only 6 it will be a miracle, I believe the brigade got to the 18th out of the 24 however looking at the fire that might have been up one side only doenst look like they could get up the other.

Absolutely given how quick it spread and how many needed to get to lower levels to jump out with injuries but perhaps a chance of surviving.

Terrible incident and you wonder how many other high rise buildings throughout the world least of all in England are fire hazards waiting to happen.
