Grenfell Tower block disaster

My first post on this subject. Such a terrible event.
The loss of life is going to be very high and of course my sympathy goes out all those affected.
As for the creeping politicisation that's starting to seep into the media coverage I think it's terrible but unavoidable due to the proximity of the election and the division in the nation. What should really happen is a joint visit from the leaders of the main parties but of course that is a pipe dream. I fully understand the PM's decision make a discreet visit to the scene as she did, as for her, the priority had to be fact finding and support for the on going rescue operation and I'm sure she will visit victims in time. Corbyn chose to take the press to meet the people and that's fine too as he didn't try to apportion blame himself. He knows as many do that the cladding was probably the reason a previously safe building was rendered clearly unsafe and he probably knows the policy which lead the decision to fit the cladding was the "Decent Homes Standard". That 10 million was invested in the upgrades shows there was no lack of desire to make the block a better place to live and the decisions will have been made by people who had the best intentions in mind and were aware of all the options and the safety regulations.
Hopefully the public inquiry will find the cause and the recommendations implemented but that's for the future. For now I just wish the media wouldn't give air time to the likes of that Allen girl who never misses a chance to signal her millionaire virtue while revelling in the misfortune of others.

The Queen, and the Bald Prince, have turned out today. Absolutely brilliant, showing care and compassion. The ridiculous May has been shown to be clueless.

The 'Decent Home Standard'. The biggest misnomer ever!

I wonder if Lizzie asked the people if they needed anything?

My answer would be "can we have some your guys from Chelsea barracks to help us sort and manage the donated stuff?"

I am surprised we haven't seen any help from troops with man-handling all that stuff in bags on the floors. They tend to be very good at organizing that kind of activity.

I wonder if this particular tower is the only one that has suspect materials within its construction ?

This then begs the question as to what should or can be done to prevent a recurrence elsewhere. Do we wait for the enquiry to allocate blame or should immediate measures be taken to keep any chip pan fire or fridge explosion local ?
No company or organisation will want to be proactive but surely something should be done immediately from a legal standpoint to improve individual fire risks within the individual flats that may be at risk in other similar buildings.

Absolutely....this cladding should be removed if it is the same

Ive read that there are at least 4 or 5 blocks in other London boroughs with the same cladding. However, it's not just the cladding but the way it is applied that is important.

How the fuck would she know? Has every single person been checked in or out by her? This isn't a business with a roll call of staff as they leave ffs. Some people will have had friends round, some not there at all, others may have been subletting the accommodation.

The need for some people to find a 'conspiracy' out of anything is frankly ludicrous. People have died, many by the looks of things, the last thing anyone wants or needs is this bollocks being spouted.

Once the fire brigade complete their searches they'll give an accurate figure, until that point people will just have to wait.
I have worked in a gold command in a serious incident. They will know the current numbers of those verified as unaccounted for. The numbers may rise as more people come forward or may decrease as people are matched up. Either way a current figure will exist. Not looking for a conspiracy, just questioning the strategy of not sharing the information. Not talking bollocks either. Just a point of view from someone with some experience.

I´m sure its much more complicated than just one problem material hence the need for an enquiry but in the meantime we have a situation that allowed a very local fire to spread extremely quickly to the rest of the vertically positioned flats.
I feel limiting any fire to its source may prove to be the way forward from a continuing risk point of view rather than guessing at how it has spread. Anything that achieves this should be legally enforced.

Let the enquiry take its time but allowing similar fire risk elsewhere is unforgivable.

Lots of people looking for loved ones. I would expect that the number of people in hospital that are not identified yet will be known. Will somebody be saying for example that they have an unidentified young female and then cross-matching against young females that are reported lost?
Why not report something like 50 are in hospital and 5 and as yet unidentified and the 5 include 2 young females and 3 old men? (made up numbers to illustrate the point)
The tragic stories of people going from hospital to hospital searching for somebody seems like a way of keeping people hanging on with hope.

There was a statement earlier by police and fire.
Everyone in hospital is identified.

Maybe now announced, but I'm wondering about the 24-48 hours straight afterwards. That poor woman looking for her mum, sister and her husband and the three nieces. I must have seen her on the news for the last 4 days.

Tbf it's a bit like the Manchester bomb when people were appealing on tv you knew if they hadn't found them in 48 hours sadly they were gone. Obviously the authorities aren't going to confirm they are dead until they have positive proof, can you imagine if they said ye they are dead with no proof and then suddenly they turn up in a hospital.
On another note we got called to a high rise last night 9th floor of 14, arses were twitching on the way thankfully it turned out to be nothing.

Tbf you can be burnt beyond recognition so there is no point what so ever putting out any descriptions and the staff are busy trying to save their lives, there is NO conspiracy or keeping relatives in the dark

I'm talking about the people still alive in hospital but not identified, not the unidentified or unidentifiable dead.
Original question was asked of someone who's been working in this kind of tragedy.
