Got some very nice varieties in seed trays, outside in 2 large propagators.

Anyone have any tips on keeping healthy, pest free plants? They are mostly chinense variety and are Super hots. The last thing I want is infestation, and If I can, not to use pesticides.

I have; Red Habenero, Naga Morich, Fatalii, Mustard Habenero, Red Savina, 7 Pod Brain Strain, Bhut Jolokia, Marouga Red, Butch T Trinidads, Scotch Bonnet, Paper Lantern, 7 Pod Jonah, Trinidad Scorpion, Raja Mirch, 7 Pod Douglah, and Asian Birds Eyes.

Blueinkwell is your man

Not sure how much he knows, but I know he grows them.

definitely don't leave them outside.. I tried growing some naga's and they do not like being waterlogged in rain for 6 months with no care at all..

Have you sent thehippyseedcompany a message on Youtube mate? I'm sure you posted that member a couple of years back, I had a tiny obsession with his videos for a time.

He could give you some advice but obviously better suited to Oz and it's climate with it being where he lives.

I'm tired, sorry if I'm stating the obvious or not making sense :p

Haha me too. Yeah I did mate.
Neil knows a lot mate but I don't want to mither him as I didn't buy my seeds from him, and the guy I bought them off in Holland gives limited germination tips only.

Want to be prepared in case the worse comes to the worse and I get pests or disease. PM'd blueinkwell so I'll wait for him to reply.

Easy to grow, just greenhouse or similar and keep them warm. Avoid the cold at all costs.

Cheers mate, it's not the cold I'm worried about. The next month or so it will be warm in the evenings over here, and hopefully by that time, I'll have them in pots outside and out of the propagator.

This is where I worry as they will be open to flies and insects and other pests which at such a young age will kill the plants. Some of the seeds weren't cheap and If I lose all my Fatalii's will I have to wait til next year before I try again?

What pests do you have?

Not sure mate. Never grew chillies before. I know the neighbours cats like to spray where ever they can, as for smaller pests I can only assume they'd be similar to pests in the UK.

I've only had trouble with greenfly and some varieties they didn't attack, just used a pesticide but make sure you wash chillies before use. Once fruiting feed with tomato feed to help the fruit to grow. Use a small paintbrush (or your finger) to polonate the flowers once they are out, I just tickle them with my finger. This is a god site for info: http://www.southdevonchillifarm.co.uk/info/growing-chillies
Good luck.

Neem oil (Google) from your local agri suppliers works for us over here.Natural oil that deters rather than kills bugs outright.I doubt if you'll get greenfly over there but moths and beetles do the damage for us

I had lots of problems with greenfly last year. Was told recently that mixing a bit of fairy liquid and water then spraying lightly on the plants will kill them off. Not tried it yet though and it seems a bit risky

Got a few different ones this year bought from seed at the south devon chili farm. Got some haboneros Just germinating, and then got some arji limon and serrano doing very well. The hungarian hot wax ones have all died apart from one. No idea how its happened

Been growing mine for a few years now

I keep my on windowsill that has sunshine most of the day in large pot and turn every few weeks to stop them growing to much towards sun

I don't water leaves or plant itself but every other day make sure plate below pot gets plenty of water - never used any pest control or spray

planted new one last year (got from bloke in work) had no chillis last year but keep it going - already got 10 flowers this year (so hoping at least 6/7 chillies from that already)

Cheers blueinkwell and everyone else. Looks like greenfly will be possibly the main problem. Had a power cut this morning (all Cyprus) so had to bring my propagators inside. Hopefully all will be good.
