Guardian's nominations for Premiership flop of the season.

So explain how Real Madrid managed 1 og in 180 minutes.

We conceded 41 goals in the League. The best defence conceded 35. And we were without Kompany for almost the entire season.

Avoidconfusion you are not doing what it says on the tin!
I'd hazard a guess that it was due to about 11 of our players hardly venturing out of our own half for 180 minutes that probably helped on that front. Personally, Otamendi scares the shizzles out of me whenever he runs full pelt to get in front of an attacker before he, more often than not, completely misses the ball, the defender and leaves the rest of the back 3 completely exposed.

We did concede 41 goals in the league (the worst of the top 6 teams), and it could have been so many more.

I wouldn't class him as a flop of the season, though. He's had the odd decent game here and there.

One swallow doesn't make Spring and all that.

Imagine how few we would have conceded without his amateur play? Stating we conceded 41 goals and it's an alright record doesn't tell the whole picture does it. Some of the calamity, and importance of the goals tells a more colourful picture. And Otamendi was often the key figure in the defence, and a lot of the goals.

Maybe I just don't rate him, but then again I expect an apparent "ball playing Centre Back" to actually be able to defend, or be able to play the ball.

The goals against record was good....until it comes to the goals against v the top 8! Not so good then.

He is worth another season with a good manager behind him who might actually look at defending as part of the game plan.

Time will tell though.
