Guardiola considering restoring Toure to CL squad

If we get through, I would like to see him back in and used as an impact sub. Useful if we every get to Penalties too! It would be great to given him a chance to redeem himself and say goodbye in a fitting manner.

Yaya playing will benefit us and yaya as he is in a the shop window, come January he can talk to clubs in europe.

Can't see it. If he's going to keep his mouth shut and stay in good shape then we could use the extra body in midfield with Nando only capable of shielding the back 4, Garcia needing to be eased in and Delph incapable of being fit to play.

On the link I watched late in the second half they flashed up players stats e.g. sprints made & speed & running time. Yaya had a couple of sprints but the interesting one was how much time he spent running, this was 29.1 %. Not sure of the veracity of these stats but it figures that for over 70 % of his time on the pitch he was either stopped or walking.

Come on man, I've given Yaya plenty of stick but he put a decent enough shift in considering he hadn't played yet this season. I think he's at the stage now where he knows he'll be out for good if he doesn't apply himself.

We put out a MP team & then played like one - got lucky with a couple of goals.

Agree with that part though. It was like we'd gone back 12 months.

Pep Guardiola isn't picking his Champs Lg squad now, he will pick it when the time comes.

When that time comes, he will pick it based on merit, & availability.

Just as he left Yaya out, on merit, he will put hik back in, on merit, if he deserves it. If he doesn't he won't get in barring injuries to others.

It is a challenge to all, including Yaya, to get in that squad & it's not a problem, it's a bonus.

Some short memories in here, yaya was next to useless in the CL last couple of seasons, keep him for league games and put together a quick flexible team for the CL,i don't think we would have beaten barca with him passing it sideways and backwards all game

It's possible, we'd have to switch out one of Caballero/Gunn, Zaba/Maffeo or Navas/Angelino though.
You have to name 2 goalkeepers on the A list so even if we dropped Cabellero we'd still have to put Gunn (who is only 20 so on the B list right now) in his spot on the A list although he would count as club trained I think so perhaps that would work. Can't see Pep doing it mind.

Yeah Gunn could take one of the club-trained spots, they're not being used at the moment.

I can't see that happening at all based on one good game,we are better without him and who would we drop out

"we are better without him " oh come on you couldn't say if you knew the football... i wanna remind you we talk about YAYA...

Yaya is still one of the best midfielder in the world....

I think the current squad is over reliant on Fernandhino. Fernando is fine coming on to shore up a lead but isn't a like for like back up for Fernandhino. If we do not recruit in January, I would bring Garcia into the squad before Yaya. But if we do replace a couple of players it might be possible to find room for Yaya.

Not sure if Pep will regard Jesus as CL ready, but if he does I think he could be accommodated in place of either Navas or Sane.

If Navas is left out (on merit) like some are suggesting I'll eat my hat.

Which just happens to be made out of a nice juicy pie. Mmmmmm, pie.

We talk about a 33 year old Yaya, obviously still possesses the qualities he's always had but completely unsuited to the high energy game that Pep employs.

So I'd agree that we are better without him in general but he can still be a real asset if used wisely.

IF we don't buy anyone in January and IF Touré keeps playing well and IF Seluk shuts up for ten minutes and IF someone gets a long-term injury (two-three months) at the wrong time then I think it would be good to have Touré in the team. García wouldn't likely get played against Barcelona, PSG, Juventus, Bayern or Real. But on his day Touré only needs ten minutes off the bench to win us a game. I'd like to see him back in but nobody deserves to be dropped for him except Delph and we need Delph because he's homegrown.

What Seluk says or doesn't say is a side-issue for the media.

The only question is is Toure good enough. He is on the ball when he gets to the final third, but my concern is his work off the ball when the opposition have it. I can see us using him as a squad player and as a sub. There are reports today that he has lost over a stone in weight.

As a generalisation, Yaya is worth 10-20 minutes and in that he can turn a game. Is he worth 90 minutes, week in week out? I'd say no and I suspect 99% of us would agree. I love what he has done for us but at best he is now a plan B. If a place can be found for the CL that's all well and good but I wouldn't lose much sleep if it couldn't
