Guinness shortage

I do enjoy the plastic paddys who drink Guinness with zero idea about Guinness family members pro UK actions around the 1916 era. A fair few Hibernians won’t touch the stuff because of it.
I've never known an Irish man to refuse it.
And I've yet to meet any person who has refused a drink based on its history.
There may well be thousands of these people who don't drink alcohol for some political reason but I have seen Budweiser bring sold by the bucket loads in Prague and vodka going down a treat in Boston.

1916 was a weird time in Irish history anyway. Most Irish couldn't give a shit, till the English overlords stupidly martyred the prisoners.

We'd still be speaking English today if it wasn't for that.

Ireland was in the UK then so pro-irish too?

Why wouldn't you? It's a Czech beer.

Vodka is traditionally a Polish drink

The stuff they used to drink was mostly Russian vodka, I think, and something called Greygoose when the cheaper vodka was in short supply.
Mind you, it was mostly irish bars on a Friday and Saturday night so the source and quality didn't seem to be an issue.

I worked in the Czech Republic , not long after the split, near Brno for the best part of 2 years.
The drink their was Budvar version and the pubs did not and would not sell Budweiser ( the US Anheuser Busch) beer.
When I went back a good few years later Budweiser (US) was everywhere, along with Heineken and other European beers.

All the fuss before Christmas about a Guinness shortage….perhaps it was just a marketing ploy to sell more,I don’t know of any pub/supermarket or off licence that ran out or had limited stocks either before or after Christmas/new year
Tescos in Levenshulme ran out, it was fucking horrendous.

It is Budweiser Budvar though it even says it on the label. When I was last in Prague everyone I saw was on that or Staropramen. Who goes Czechia to drink that other shite!

The biggest issue ive seen is with the Nitrosurge cans. Loads of people get the surger for Christmas so all the cans are out of stock til about February, happened last year too

I was a 'victim' of the shortage in two boozers just before Christmas. In one place, the only other palatable beer was around £7 per pint!

I don't know what it has been like up north over Christmas but even suburban pubs were rammed seemingly every night down here in December. More than previous years. Almost as if people have got used to paying ridiculous prices for beer.

I'm probably confusing people with the 2 names.
The Budweiser Budvar is a nice drink ( the Czechia version) but there a load of places now selling the Anheuser Bush Budweiser now.
I'm surprised they haven't tried changing brand names or maybe they have.
Never tried that Staropramen.

I'm sure the Americans tried to get rights and failed
Also heard the Guinness thing is all hype
Sales up 30pc

Never seen it in all my years here, either in pubs or shops. Not saying it doesn't exist but never seen anyone drinking it. Having said that, I don't tend to frequent expat/tourist drinking places.

Budweiser though is only a Czech brand here (and perhaps elsewhere in the EU?). I think the American brand is marketed as just Bud.
