What model is that SG banjo?

It's a 2012 Standard in your classic Heritage cherry finish, upgraded with burstbuckers 1 and 3, 500CTS pots and a new PCB board. I'm trying my best to keep it but I overstretched myself with the Les Paul and I'm just about to go and hand over the debt of a small country to Lees Village motors for car repairs :-0

I'm tempted, I really am. Does it have a hard case?

Yeah, it's the proper job. White and furry on the inside, black with the Gibson logo on the outside. I've swapped the truss rod cover for a plain one but I've still got the SG etched one to put back on when (if...) it goes to a new home. Gibson have changed the design of the standards for 2013 to a teardrop pick guard which I don't think looks as good as the batwing one on this model and to my ears the burstbuckers are a lot better than the 490R and 498T's which come as standard.

Here's a clip of the actual guitar being used to demo a MJW amp. It's not me playing it by the way.

Sounds great. I'll have a think, but obviously if you get a buyer don't hesitate!

No worries, I do have someone interested but that involves posting it. I'd much rather it go locally and to a blue! If you're still rehearsing at wall of sound you're welcome to try it out or I'll be down at Shure5 in Heyside on Tuesday night till 10.30 having a jam.

thats ok mate, my mate is the same loves anything Fender, Ive never been a fan of the thin Fender tone and I love Gibson guitars.

My favourite 'tone' would be Mick Taylor, Peter Green & Clapton when they were with John Mayall, or Claptons tone in Cream. or this with Peter Green (F Mac)

Mick Taylor's tone on some of the live Stones stuff from the 70s is incredible.

I like the thin tone of Fender, I find it easier to adjust and change effects etc than with thicker sounding guitars/amps.

Les Paul's are all about the sustain for me.

I'm pretty certain that it's a Fender modern player Marauder. You can pick them up new for around £250.

Yeah it is part of the modern player series I think.

I lose track with Fender especially the lower end stuff, modern player, classic player, blacktop etc etc

Yeah I forgot about Get Yer yaYa's out :) awesome player is Mick, there some you tubes with him gigging with the Stones again, doing Sway and stuff like that.

Its funny Ive never liked Claptons tone since he started playing Strats, when he played Gibsons (like on the Beano album) his tone was killer imo.

(not tryin to start a Gibson v Fender argument btw, theyre both great) :)

Looks lovely mate but Im sure its a fake.....unless they are Squier labeled guitars, they are not part of the Fender line. I'm 99.9% sure those are the only guitars you'll find Fender ever made in China.

You will find Fender labelled guitars made in Japan, Korea, Mexico and the US, if you look around, but not China.

If Im wrong on this my apologies but Im sure Im right.

I did a lot of reading up before paying for it as I had my doubts too but it is legit.

Or legit as in, from what I can gather, it was intended to be part of the Squire classic vibe series as they've been getting rave reviews but someone at Fender liked it and decided to put the name Fender on it instead of Squire to give it more appeal.

I like to think of it as a cheap Fender but in reality it's more an expensive Squire.

I've been quite impressed with the quality to be honest, it's much better than I expected.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bigging it up too much it is what it is and at under £300 it's a budget guitar. Putting Fender on the headstock could be viewed as devious or misleading but I quite like it's black sheep 'what is it?' position in the Fender/Squire range.

It's also got a cool backstory as it's an updated take on a guitar Fender advertised but never released back in the 60s as they deemed it too 'futuristic' looking. It's pups were under the scratchplate and it looked very weird. I think it had 4 pups too.

I think I've admitted it before too but I'm a bit of a Fender fanboy at times!

I'm pretty certain that it's a Fender modern player Marauder. You can pick them up new for around £250.

Anyway, here's my latest acquisition.......

I'm also selling this if anyone's after a brilliant SG for £600?

what model & year is that LP mate ?

It's a 2011 traditional with factory fitted bigsby. There were only 400 made and I missed out when they were released. I promised myself that if a used one appeared for sale I would buy it, and as luck would have it this popped up about a month back. It's a bit of a beast.

What you learning right now?

I'm trying my best to figure out the intro to this song:

Very challenging!

I know it's a guitar thread, but I've just received this reverb I ordered.

How cool is this???

It's got a 'Shimmer' effect for some Shoegaze tones.. looking forward to testing this out.
