Guitar Thread

I've bought a beat up Yamaha 12 stringer off eBay to do up.

I am proper wank at anytime DIY or constructive, but thus far I have quite enjoyed it.

Stripped all of the hardware off as it was rusting, soaked it in vinegar, pasted it in bi-carb, rinsed and dried and it looks great (better in hand).

Now you to deep clean it top to toe and oile the neck and it will probably be back together re-strung within another few days (time permitting).

Upgrading the metal has felt pretty rewarding for not that not output........

Good for you mate. I've done a few renovations over the years.

Put my bits in the dishwasher, came up well. It's how I learned to set up, truss rod tightening etc.

Lets see pics of before and after when you've finished.

After much pondering I finally bit the bullet and bought my first ever reasonably expensive guitar and it's fucking ace

Nice - what is it exactly? Sadly I’m not nerdy enough to know :)

It's a Revstar, top choice. 'Fucking ace' is what I think most people who actually pick one up (and aren't fussed that it doesn't say Gibson on the headstock) end up saying. Might be juniors next choice in our house.

If I wasn’t a FOC I’d have recognised that!! Was watching Matteo Mancuso on YT the other day - he’s a dab hand on one ;)

Yeah that's my view you save a fortune because it isn't a cool name and I'm not knocking that because I almost did it.

I tried a lot of different guitars in the price range and non of them were as playable, not even close. I didn't realise how much easier it is to play a really good guitar.

Bit of a random question - is a poly or nitro finish? I’m unable to play anything with nitro - yes it is weird but is a thing!!

Btw, I wasn't having a pop at Gibson owners and certainly not you - I could easily have written Fender. It just saddens me up that the cachet of both those brands means that some brilliant guitars get overlooked.

I'm a dabbler and not good enough to justify buying that guitar but while my son's trying out guitars properly, I like to have a dabble and because the shop assumes I'm the one paying they indulge me! That guitar feels so well balanced and enjoyable and I've picked up guitars twice it's price and thought they would be a nightmare in comparison.

Because I knew I was buying something I guilt free grabbed loads of stuff including some very expensive acoustics which they unlocked for me.

I wish I hadn't touched the acoustics though.
