Guitarists - advice please.

+1 for Washburn, I bought a Washburn guitar (see other guitar threads) from that very ebay shop, It's 3 yards from me as I write and I love it to bits. Don't expect much more than 'a guitar type noise' from the amplifier though, if you get into it it's probably the first thing you'll want to replace. I got our kid a small Orange starting-off type amp last Chrimbosh, I was well impressed with that, and I paid about 120 notes for it from a place in Notlob. If that's a £stretch, and you want a bit more of a rock sound, a properly decent distortion/ overdrive pedal (aka stomp-box) can be a really good upgrade but relatively cheap.

Don't be so concerned with the equipment at this stage....I've been playing for 17 years when I started at the age of 12 of course I wanted the nicest, shiniest guitar with the coolest stuff.......which won't make a damn bit of difference if you don't know anything!....so learn the basics, keep your head down, have fun with it and one day you will be able to get something nice and really do something with it!

Learn on an acoustic mate. If you can't play an acoustic you won't be able to play an electric either. It's the same instrument, the only difference is lighter strings on a lekky which requires a better touch for tone control or a shit load of effects to hide your mistakes. You can plug in most acoustics these days to hide the same mistakes.

Problem with cheap acoustics is that normally the strings are a mile from the fretboard.

But cheap electrics suffer from fret rattle and warped necks too. My advice is learn on an acoustic then transfer the skills to electric. Most reasonable acoustics have adjustable necks. It's almost impossible to buy a crap guitar these days unless you buy it from toys R us in which case you deserve what you get.

My only advice would be to learn on the acoustic mate. In the long run it's far better to learn on the acoustic if a little tougher.

This ^^^^ and also pop to sound control on regent road for a good deal (think it's changed names now come to think of it).

Bought a Gorilla amp in there about 6 years ago.Still going strong :)
