Haaland Goal v Sparta - Fluke or Genius?

It was pure Instinct

other players can kick the post in frustration, Haaland kicks the crossbar

The Tremendous Nordic Meat Shield is a Shaolin Soccer Sifu

Well, did he mean it or was it just flukey. I'd like to think he meant what he was doing and Hoddle reckons he did as well.

Don't know how to add voting buttons, as that would probably help - bit like the Stones Goal thread.
Not a damn thing flukey about that goal!!

From viewing some stuff online it appears there are two camps.

1. He meant it. This is Blues, every pundit and a vast amount of opposition fans.

2. Fluke. Inhabited by, it appears, mostly Rags and Dippers.

I think it was somewhere in between, certainly not a fluke, but it could easily have not beaten the keeper as he wasn’t looking, so certainly not true genius. But credit to him for having a go, and this time it worked.

He definitely meant it. He was also definitely aiming for that side of the goal. He might have got a bit of luck in terms of the ball hitting the ground in a way where it'd bounce up and over the keeper's reach, but I like to imagine the keeper would have missed it anyway as long as it was going roughly the way it did

Nothing flukey about it.

Takes a small amount of luck to come off but was 1000% intentional and that is blatantly obvious.

He even dinged it into the ground to get it to rise up off the deck like all good headers.
Point is no one else would even try it.
He did and credit to him.

He is a pure number 9. He definitely meant the outcome from what he was trying to do. To be honest, when I watch it again it feels like it snaps every ligament in my body. It is almost hard to watch. I feel like I need to take up yoga and monk martial art studies just to be able to get close to what that freak of a goal was.

Goals like this will always be open to debate, but I think the direction was probably intended. It's a great goal whether it was meant or not. I always think more contention arises with bicycle kicks scored from near the edge of the penalty area. A player has a fairly good chance of sending the ball towards the goal, but as to which area of the net the ball will land, it's far from precise. The ball is almost always coming off the front/top of the boot or the shin so the eventual direction of the shot is far more difficult for the striker to predict (when compared to a directional shot using any part of the boot whilst facing the goal). Many players at all levels have scored a bicycle-kick - but repeating the feat consistently in professional competition rarely happens.

Unbelievable goal.
In the 60 years I've been watching football I thought I'd seen everything but I've never seen a goal like that.

He's a truly special player that makes scoring look easy, If it was so easy why does nobody else get anywhere near the numbers he does.

They say a player peaks at around 27/28 yrs old, it's mind-blowing knowing the best is yet to come.
