Had Sven enjoyed the same level of investment?

I think some of you under estimate what a huge investment can do. Roberto Mancini and Sven would probably do about the same given similar investment. Yes, Clueless brought us down to 10th with a massive investment, but he's an exception (one of the few managers that can take a squad capable of top 3, and drop them down into mid-table) and we all know he's utter shit.

I think Sven, with the same money, and ability to replace the players (or whole squad for that matter) that contributed to the post-new years collapse would have seen him nearly or as successful as Mancini.

Di Matteo, not exactly known for his managing success at West Brom, went and won the FA cup and CL with Chelsea, and with another massive summer investment is top of the league. Again, Clueless was probably one of two or three managers in the past decade that would be able to spend 250 Million and still be mediocre (QPR is final proof of his terrible management).

Had major investment at Lazio and won loads of trophies, would have done better than Hughes.

Can't see Sven ever spending nigh on £20m for RSC.

But he would have spent 100 billion gazillion on Beckham

That both Hughes and then Mancini were given would we have been successful?

I look over that Sven era fondly (especially the first half of the season) as after the dross of Pearce it was a breath of fresh air.

However was he a 'busted flush' when he came to City or could he have achieved something?

Without a shadow of a doubt under Sven we were progressing despite the 8-1 freak thumping we got at the end of the season. Under Hughes we went backwards and spent lots of cash and bought lots of dead wood for big money.

Whether he would have taken us to the title is one thing but he would have been very close thats for sure.

He actually did better than Hughes without the money - he got more points and finished higher in the League than Hughes after that useless twat spent an additional £150m on Sven's squad.

We fell to pieces after xmas under Sven, but before xmas we were in the top 3, and this was the season after Pearce nearly got us relegated! Given the circumstances and the time frame he had, Sven did a remarkable job and it was absolutely scandalous that he lost his job to make way for Hughesless.

Sven might not be on Mancini's level, but he was a lot closer to it than Hughes was, Lesley set us back 3 years in his 18 months in the job.

It always absolutely baffled me the idiots that continued to sing Hughes' name after he'd gone, they seem to have gone rather quiet this season though...

you're forgetting that Hughes got us to the quarterfinals of Europa League first season which cost points in the league considering we didn't really have a deep enough squad at the time to do both, Fulham at home in particular was basically a throwaway in preparation for Hamburg later in the week where we were brilliant, would have surely finished on more points if not for that.

Sven was decent but has done nothing since leaving us and even the second half of his year with us was apalling.

Talking of doing nothing since he left, have you seen the league table recently? To take a promising squad, spend 150m and finish lower in the table with less points is pathetic. Even if we beat a couple of Faroe Island teams in the Europa.

Pound for pound Hughes is the worst manager we've had since Alan Ball.
