Hansen, Lawrensen and Shearer bring shame on the BBC

I can't be arsed, since Wogan left "Points of View" complaining has been futile.

I thought it all started to go downhill when Barry Took was eased out of the picture. There was far more to that than met the eye, but when I wrote a twenty seven page letter about this to the BBC they didn't even read it out. If that doesn't prove a conspiracy I don't know what does.

The following was in a recent issue of MCIVTA. I found that I agreed with a lot of the opinion, so I thought that I would share it on here:-

I have complained to the BBC in the strongest terms possible about their poor, biased, nasty punditry and, I am sad to say, commentary of the England v Italy match last Sunday.

The punditry of Alan Hansen and Alan Shearer and the commentary of Guy Mowbray and Mark Lawrenson was disgraceful and their victimisation of Mario Balotelli was appalling. It was nothing short of a character assassination. In a school this would be classed as bullying and victimisation.

If you saw it or heard it, then I urge you to complain too:

Complaints can be made at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/complain-online/

I refer to Hansen referring to Mario Balotelli as “stupid Mario” and his untrue comment saying that he had won nothing, to which his fellow pundit, Lee Dixon, much to his credit said “The Championship”.

Hansen opined that City only won the Premier League because Balotelli got banned after being sent off at Arsenal. Again, not true. The facts say otherwise. Mario Balotelli provided the pass for the winning goal that sealed Manchester City’s Premier League Title on 13th may 2012. A Championship to which Balotelli contributed 13 League goals, as well as assists.

Hansen and Shearer focused on Balotelii’s negative points, ignoring the good, yet they made no references to Wayne Rooney’s many indiscretions.

It was not lost on the main presenter Gary Lineker who referred to “juvenile back references”, before adding “so leave it out, yeah”.

I did some further research into Balotelli.

Whilst Mario Balotelli is a young man with a colourful character and maybe needs to mature somewhat, he is very popular with his team mate and fans (not just of his own club), as well as a very successful career on the pitch. I would also refer you to Mario Balotelli’s record of success. A Champions League medal, 3 Italian Seria A (Scudetti) medals, 1 Premier league medal, 1 Italian Cup medal, 1 UEFA Supercup medal, 1 FA Cup medal (all before the age of 22). Hardly the record of a “stupid” person, and certainly the record of someone who deserves more respect than he gets from the BBC.

I also refer to Mark Lawrenson’s peevish joining in with the character assassination of Balotelli:

Guy Mowbray said “Mario is having a moan” (whilst ignoring all Rooney’s “moans”), and Lawrenson replied by saying of Balotelli “if his brains were petrol he wouldn’t get out of the garage”. This all went beyond the reasonable bounds of comment and was very demeaning. It is not acceptable. It is a very sad day when the BBC has come to this.

This is not the first time that Hansen and Lawrenson in particular have stuck the boot into Balotelli. They were doing it all last season. They were very negative about City too.

I ask the question: would Hansen, Lawrenson, Shearer or Mowbray be so personal about an English player, or perhaps more pertinently, about a white player?

Do the BBC want to lose more viewers or are they going to do something about it? At very least the positions of Hansen, Shearer, Lawrenson in particular should be reviewed. Firm action must be taken so that there is no repeat of this and that the BBC returns to the highest standards and integrity.

The bits I've highlighted blue I agree with , about the rest of it you have a point but I don't see any point in complaining because it will go straight into the bin, you may get some generic reply telling you "we will look into your concerns" etc etc, but nothing will change.

Pointless really but I have complained, only took 5min

The more complaints, the more they take notice
not too sure of the facts but someone posted a similar piece on the muen and said they need at least 150 complaints for the beeb to look into the complaint then wont do a thing other than send a memo to keep quiet on mario for a while.still think mario should have a t-shirt made with all the tossers faces on (apart from lee dixon)and listing his record to date with the caption "WON NOTHING" underneath.that would be class to see and also pure mario.

Just complained about these three. I think Hansen has some deep-seated issue with City, probably from his playing days or he hasn't been able to accommodate our move from the proverbial laughing stock and sure six points a season to the point where his beloved Dippers know they've another team to overcome before they have those 'fantastic European nights at Anfield'! I also thanked the BBC for the opportunity at long last of choosing just the crowd noise. It improves the game no end! A click of a switch and nobody from the crowd mentions that X played for MANUre or that Y scored in the Z Champions league when he played for MANUre when the nearest of the two clubs competing lie at least a thousand miles from the Stretford End!

I sent a nasty complaint yesterday and received this automated reply.

Dear Mr CityCTID

Thanks for contacting the BBC. This is an automated email confirming we have received the complaint below and submitted in this name via www.bbc.co.complaints. Please do not reply to this email since it is generated from an unmonitored address. We attach the text of the complaint for your records and will normally include it in our overnight report of all today’s audience reaction. This is circulated to BBC staff tomorrow (with your personal details removed) and ensures your points will reach the right people quickly. We aim normally to reply within 10 working days (around 2 weeks) depending on the nature of your complaint.

To make sure we use the licence fee efficiently we may not investigate every issue in detail, and for consistency may send the same reply if others have also complained about the same issue. For our full complaints procedures and how we consider the issues raised in feedback please read.. blah blah

Do you really think complaining to the bbc about "bias" commentators is really going to make a difference? Lets be realistic here. This is the broadcasting organisation who wastes millions of pounds of mine and your money (tv license) on utter shite.

I admire anyone who complains however the few lone voices of some passionate supporters supporting one of our own is just going to get laughed at.

Best way to complain. Turn it off-don't watch it and let the ratings drop. Then they will take note.

It's organizations like the current set up at the BBC that tend to ignore anything. They might well have a complaints section, and they may well have someone coming on to defend the shite they often pump out, but I have yet to hear or see the BBC hold up their hands and CHANGE anything. The MotD prog was going downhill fast and to arrest the slide the mandarins decide it would be a good idea to add Shearer to the proceedings. The man has two brain cells going in different directions. It's only 'cos he's on Sky that the BBC haven't offered Phil Thompson a berth on the sofa!
