Alan was totally underrated throughout his entire career. He was an 8/10 every week, played the game and just went home, totally shunned the attention and let his football ability do the talking. Had a cultured left peg and how he never got an England Cap is staggering considering the number of stumps that have played for England. A perfect role model for any young kid who wants to play the game the correct way!!!!

He scored a good few like that but for anyone who never saw him, the goal you may be thinking of was against Athletico Bilbao in 1969 which...the good bit...is on YouTube!Can't remember the game but I can recall him smashing in a left footer into the corner. He didn't score many but when he did . . . . . .!
He was the precursor to GazBaz. Same kind of player - never noticed, never got the accolades but kept the team ticking!
