Ironically, Roy Dixon, who passed away last week was given the job of looking out for Alan when he first started. Roy always said Alan could ‘bend it like Beckham’, no mean feat given the difference in the weight of the ball in those days.

Thats true. I know Alan well (my namesake) and I ve spoken to him on many an occasion. He`d sooner watch rugby and golf. His elder brother is a big mate of mine.
