Happy York Away Day

Working in York last week, kindly advised Rodney Rowe winning scorer teaches in Huddersfield and elder York fans recall we went on to relegate them indeed they were never in a relegation place that season unti coming to Maine Road for 90 mins.

I cannot think of 2 more polar opposites than the respective back streets of Bootham / Moss Side.

Another insipid defeat that day. Came away almost lost for words, thinking what can we do? Utterly depressing. Fell asleep on the train home and almost missed my stop. Surreal to think that we are playing in the World Club Cup.

It seems longer than 25 yrs ago.
But then again I liked a smoke back then, so smoking a big reefer on the terrace during that game probably blunted out the shambolic position we found ourselves in with that result.
I remember it getting messy in York later after the game. Some very pissed off blues that day

Saw a couple of scuffles between blues that day. Royle had divided us, some saying we can’t keep sacking managers, others had had enough of him

25 years ago. That makes me shudder. My life has past me by so quickly. It seems like yesterday.

We were 12th after the York defeat. After 4 games we were 14th. Obviously because it was so early in the season, it’s not going to stick in the mind so much. But I think the period between the 4th and 5th games was officially the lowest ever position.
