Happy York Away Day

Where did you find those tables?

There’s a league table generator on 11v11.com.

You can enter any date in history and which league you’re after and it will show you the table on that date.

Great, cheers. Just that even the club consider 12th being our lowest ever position. Perhaps league tables weren’t officially produced so early back then, like they are today after one game

Not sure there’s ever been an official first league table of the season.

But back in the day, the papers would always use the three game mark to first print the table. That was usually after the second Saturday.

I think United won their opening game 3-0 one time and they all changed to doing one after the first game.

I was in a shoe shop in Ashton when York scored their first goal, went to most away games that season but didn’t get a ticket for that game. Bought a nice pair of Daisy’s as compensation. The fight back came against Wrexham on Boxing Day, I was there, seem to remember a stand had been demolished, “oh Terry Cooke” and Stoke after being 1-0 down at half time, think we were nearer mid table than play offs at the time but maybe wrong on that.

Gillingham that season was memorable, first game at home 12 of us took my mate’s Dad Ken (who I sat next to at Maine Road) to the game in corporate for his 70th birthday, he had the early signs of Alzheimer’s but despite a 0-0 draw we had a great day, Ken played for Stalybridge and one of the lads got Buzzer to crack on he’d seen him playing. Buzzer was walking past us, stopped in his tracks looked at Ken and said “Kenny Rodgers, I do t believe it, I saw you when you were Captain of Stalybridge” the smile on Ken’s face was brilliant. He lapsed into full blown Alzheimer’s shortly after that but it’s a memory we all cherish.

The next game against Gillingham we were on a golf holiday in Tenerife so watched on TV over there, then the big one at Wembley, so many stories about that game and Paul Dickov’s goal (and Super Kev’s) were so pivotal in our progression.
Hammo you should have been on the 10 o clock train from Stalybridge with the Fox lol we’d been barred from half the pubs in York by 12-30 well Tez Holt had lol

I remember Tez Holt, he played for the Sycamore who were in the top division of The Hyde League when I ran the team, when I said played I meant came on as a sub mostly, he wasn’t very good to say the least.

Had some good trips with the Fox including Cardiff away when about 50 of us turned up at a sleepy pub in South Wales, the landlady didn’t know what hit her, then forcing open level crossing barriers that were only open in Summer months so we could save a few miles, proper dangerous that was. Day Franny took over and Keith Curle missed a penalty, got beat in the FA Cup. Not seen many of the Fox lads recently, including Ronnie and Bomber who ran the club. We go from the Little Astley in Stalybridge these days.

Me Quinny Ronnie Gaz Blackhurst Sid Al Chap Chris Haig Nidge Duckworth all still go together but from the BP. Cardiff was mental worst away experience bar Forest in the FA Cup in 1974 as far as I'm concerned

I bumped into Al Chap in Ashton last year, think he was 70 earlier this year. Gaz Black lives down south doesn’t he? What’s your proper name?

Remember those league "ladders" you used to get with Shoot magazine at the start of every season? Did anyone ever actually update them throughout the whole season? I used to keep them going for about 3 or 4 games!
