Harold Shipman

I knew one of the digital forensic scientist who did some work on that case. He said it was one of the worst things he had ever seen. Bear in mind he would of regularly come into contact with child abuse images so not a faint hearted bloke by any means.

However when you see the press coverage it was very low key despite being the largest toll at one trial. There was no "angle" see? No bludgeoning people to death - no chopping up corpses - no sexual motive - it seems there was nothing for our salacious press to get their teeth into the disgusting vultures. Even earlier I was watching it and the TV news reporter looked almost disinterested when he had to report that "the elderly victim was found fully clothed sat in a chair in her living room" - people bang on about the TV news but tell you what the newspapers in this country are vile.

I'll take the hit for this one, I started going on about Fred Talbot.

Sorry to derail a bit OP.
Fred Talbot wasn't a serial killer, but he did have issues in his younger days with boys he liked the look of. A pal of mine went to Alty Grammar and said he was a popular teacher, but he had some odd ideas about teaching. He remembers one class when the discussion was about skinny dipping, which he thought was odd at the time with him being just 13 years old. It was regarded as progressive back then.

It was well known in the area for years he, erm, had 'made a mistake' with his sky watching club, but the thing is he was seen regularly in the local pub with his boyfriend for years and he never hit on any young lad that took his fancy. I can't deny I walked home chatting with him on Langham Rd walking home on many occasions and never thought anything about it as we nattered away.

I'm not condoning him in any way, far from it, but for years he was just a local everyone accepted. In much the same way Harold Shipman was regarded as a superb doctor, which by all accounts he was, he had a dark secret lurking in the background, The locals knew about it by labelling him 'Dr Death', but nothing was done about it.

Two teachers from my old school have been done for sex offences. One a child porn magnate and the other groomed a pupil.

I’m only 40 too.

Your mate's experience would sort of line up with my Dad's experience. He was one of Talbot's biology students in the 70s and as you said, he had a strange way of teaching. Talking about sperm in biology class and then saying to the class that most of them had already seen it on the back of their hand.

Just watched the documentary series now, didn't know he was suspected of killing kids as well, what a cold bastard.

Thank God he's not going about now otherwise we'd be seeing a lot more COVID 19 on death certificates.

AAaHe'd be in 5 figures at this rate.
