I knew one of the digital forensic scientist who did some work on that case. He said it was one of the worst things he had ever seen. Bear in mind he would of regularly come into contact with child abuse images so not a faint hearted bloke by any means.
However when you see the press coverage it was very low key despite being the largest toll at one trial. There was no "angle" see? No bludgeoning people to death - no chopping up corpses - no sexual motive - it seems there was nothing for our salacious press to get their teeth into the disgusting vultures. Even earlier I was watching it and the TV news reporter looked almost disinterested when he had to report that "the elderly victim was found fully clothed sat in a chair in her living room" - people bang on about the TV news but tell you what the newspapers in this country are vile.
