Harry Kane

It’s certainly an embarrassment of riches that some of our fans can look at Kane and still have a different preference for the striker we should sign. You are correct that Kane would probably contribute a lot to any team he moved to. Doesn’t mean he needs to be everyone’s first choice, considering there are many factors involved. The fact “winning” is something so far removed from his brand certainly doesn’t help
Of course people have the right to prefer other forwards to Kane. I think the reason so many are against him is because they prefer Haaland.

But there have been posts where some have wished him to United or said he’s not good enough which is nonsense.

Also, if ‘winning’ was the main criteria for us signing a player then we would never have signed Aguero, Silva, Kompany, Zabaleta, Sterling and De Bruyne.

In fact, David Silva is the prime comparison. Was never going to compete for the major prizes at Valencia due to Madrid and Barca. But put him in a side with great players, like the Spanish national team, and he’ll win trophies.

Finally, I don’t see the relevance in the previously winning a trophy argument. Would a possible Carabao Cup win really change people’s opinion of Kane?

Surely, the only thing that matters is whether a player will improve the team. As it stands Kane certainly would do that.

I honestly think he's the right player for us. Much more skillful than Haaland.

Haaland will stay for another year - possibly two. It's too soon for him to move. 3 clubs in 3 years is very, very rare for top players. He is still improving where he is, and BVB are likely to stick with him through thick and thin if he hits a rough patch, like they did with Sancho this year. A top club might have to drop him, and that could be castastrophic for him long term.

Look at all the world class long term achievers. How many - Henry, Ronaldo and Rooney aside - made their big move at 19 or 20? Way more of them join their first European Elite club at 24, 25. Even the guys from Ajax usually have three or four complete seasons with them before moving on.

Haaland does look like he's ready to compete at that level earlier than some, but still, the sensible view is for him to complete one or two more full seasons as automatic first choice. And thus the ideal window for his move coincides with Bayern's likely need to replace Lewa. It just looks so obvious to me. Far more sense in that than us throwing everything at a one season hit, maybe reverting to false nine because he hit a rough patch where he looked like a useless lump holding us back.

I mean, can he close down? Is he really Drogba like in that regard? I don't know. Sure, you can say this isn't Kane's strength either - but his tactical acumen and general ability to recieve and pass like a midfielder surely makes up for that.

It's Kane. No-one wants to tell you. Mino's so down with us touting Haaland as our prized target for the future, whilst we are THE number one. It adds so much to his percieved value. Mino loves nothing more than appearing in the press to talk about his latest world-beater of a teenage sensation.

We don't want to give Levy the nod publicly, because he knows how to use this to make a deal extremely expensive. But all signs point to Harry Kane OBE being the man for City. He has the right age, physicality, skill set, and personality. He is the right profile.

His history speaks for itself. Proven beyond any doubt. And he has made the running publicly.

He needs to see through the Euros without getting injured. And then we'll see.

I can't disagree with a single word of this. I am not against Harry Kane at all and I do not see the relevance of the fact that Harry Kane has not won a trophy. Harry Kane would win the golden boot every year would win trophies by the bucket load if he were to come to City. You are, however, right that many prefer Haaland and I am one of them. That's all there is too it: Haaland first choice, Mbappe (highly, highly unlikely) and Harry Kane a very strong third choice. We can't go wrong with any of them.

Think Spurs fans are ready for us to fund their new squad.
There’s a few of them online trying to convince me he’s not got injuries and would be a fantastic buy for us.
Nah still pass.

I am not saying that “winning” is MY issue, I said it may be in other people’s minds, but the comparisons you’re making are totally different. We’re talking about the 28 year old headliner or his team, not younger or supporting players. For instance, you mentioned Aguero. It’s one thing not to be a winner at 19, it’s entirely different not to have won trophies at 28. That becomes part of the brand. He is the face of Tottenham, a big 6 team, and Tottenham doesn’t win anything — for years. He doesn’t turn up for many big games. That sticks in people’s minds. Whether it’s fair, that’s a different story.

That’s the stupidest argument for not signing a player I’ve ever heard, and it’s competing against some whoppers in this thread. Fortunately we’re being run by professionals.

What part of “it’s not MY argument” in literally the first sentence you, the official Kane sucker in the thread, missed?
But nonetheless, to deny that a player carries a brand is stupid. Cristiano Ronaldo has always been seen as a winner. His brand has declined the past few years, even though his contribution hasn’t. I wonder why...

Do you think Barca were wrong to sign Suarez because he won fuck all at Liverpool?

What about United signing van Persie from Arsenal. How did that turn out?

I wonder if Madrid regret taking Modric from Spurs due to a lack of league titles.

Football is a team sport at the end of the day and Aguero would have won fuck all as well if he was playing in the Spurs side instead of Kane.

It’s not your argument but you’re going to make it anyway? That’s funny. As for your Kane sucker comment, pretty childish stuff. Maybe I should nip over to the Haaland thread and read your balanced contributions eh?

No I don’t, and I don’t understand how many times I have to say I do think that it’s not MY point, but what I THINK affects other people’s perception. Having said that, if Kane goes to any team that wins titles and has similar numbers, that team will be the “Harry Kane team” (lol), just like Tottenham is. And that would change his CURRENT brand. It’s a different situation than Modric and Suarez because they weren’t signed to be protagonists.
