Harry Kane

Reports from levy’s lackey’s?

Just don’t sell? How many times has that worked out when a player wants to leave? Spurs won’t be getting 100m next season or any other season. This is petty football politics. Prob think we have stopped them from being challengers.

Deflection at its best.
Surely I can't be the only one getting the message from these reports that it's kane who's trying to back down, basically saying "look I had no choice, the owner lied to me, but I didn't skip training and i'll give my all to spurs"?

Pep’s assertion that Levy will not negotiate appears to being replicated by multiple reports that Levy will not “pick up the phone”

I no longer believe this to be an orchestrated plan with City and Spurs quietly negotiating in the background.

If the story of Kane believing he was set up twice by Levy are true (agreement to leave and the holiday) then it looks like Spurs have decided he isn’t leaving as a matter of principle.

Too much has gone wrong with this transfer which I don’t think City could have predicted.

I don’t know why City appear to be so confident but I suspect that is old news and that they might not be now.

Obviously this is all a guess but personally and, for the first time, I think there is more chance of him staying at Spurs as things currently stand and something major needs to change to get the transfer back on track.

Damage limitations incase a move this window does not materialise. He is clearly having a dig at his chairman’s conduct throughout negotiations. Broken promises and spinning yarns about him to his mates at the daily fails. Doesn’t sound like a player who will be motivated to play European conference football.

Laporte says he wants to leave. If he stays - yeah - I think we're good at CB. If he leaves - I think we need backup as I'm not sold on Aki.

WRT Messi - maybe he was sold on PSG - but why? Some sort of dislike for Pep?

WRT LB - just get rid of Mendy at whatever cost. Free xfer with wages paid if we need to free up a spot. LB is a big problem.

DM? - Look - there's at least two roles as a deep lying mid. Metronome/linkup play and destroyer. Most players do not fill both roles. Gundo and Rodri are great at linkup (especially Rodri - Gundo is good at deep and coming in towards the box to offer goal scoring opportunity). Neither are good in the role of destroyer.

Fernandinho was a very gifted destroyer in his prime and was at least good at linkup. Top class. But he's well, well past his prime.

At deep lying mid - we have an aging Fernandinho as destroyer and no one else. We really need a DM destroyer - someone who is fast and who can sniff out danger and break up plays.

Thinking that we're good at DM because we have Fernandinho, Rodri and Gundo is taking a much too simplistic look at the role.

WIth regard to striker - we made the decision to sell Aguero. Knowing that Jesus and Torres are very iffy at best in the starting striker role. Either we should not have sold Aguero (yeah I get that he's often injured) or we should have had a rock solid transfer replacement (not necessarily of the same class but at least someone to tide us over, say an aging player who is nonetheless good for a season or two) lined up.

As the transfer window draws to a close, it's apparent that we're possibly going into next season without signing a replacement for Kun. Which to me - quite frankly - is the fault of whomever is responsible for transfers at City.
That's all very thought out and articulate, It does seem as if you think that every decision made regarding our transfers is badly thought out / poorly implemented.

I personally have a little more faith in those who have guided us to unprecedented success rather than an opinion that would seem to criticise the entire team.

Fantasy football this is not.

wish we'd have done some damage limitations of our own. but for the second summer in a row we went all or nothing for someone who wasn't willing to go all the way

fool me once..

more than happy to eat my words, in fact make sure to quote me later when it turns out i'm wrong and we've masterminded an incredible deal later in the window!

Merely a guess, but I imagine players do what they can to secure as much money as possible while they’re still top flight footballers. They’re worth millions for 10-15 years and there’s no knowing if your career will simply decline at any stage or if freak injuries occur which would render them worthless.

£60mil (£10mil per year) over six years dangled in front of him was what Tottenham offered him and he accepted it. Possible it dawned on him recently that he’ll be in his thirties by the time the contract ends but have nothing to show at the back end of his career. That and the realisation he would walk into most top clubs right now and earn good money.
Agree with much of that.
Also, if spurs really mean that much to him, he’s also doing them a favour by signing such a long contract cos it guarantees they will get a hefty fee for him - rather than say 2 x 3 year contracts, which would not.

I would say on the freak/career ending injury point though, that I thought all top players had massive insurance policies taken out on their legs for example, to pay out enormous sums if that happened (??)
