Harry Kane

I wouldn't call it awful.

IMO there is a much higher chance of Kane slotting straight into our team due to knowing the league and having a more all round game suited to our style.

Haaland could, like most young Pep signings need a season, to bed in.

Given the cost, age and injuries etc then long term it probably isn't a better deal than Haaland but it's nonsense to say there isn't an argument to pick him of the two.

This is just a list of cliches.

All out best signings have come from outside the league and didn't suffer from not "knowing the league"

Players age hasn't been the determining factor in needing a year to adapt. Ruben Dias walked in at 22, Gabriel Jesus walked in at 20, Cancelo needed a year at 25. Ederson slotted in at 23, Bravo never adapted at 33.

A lisp is a speech defect. He's just too thick to manage a coherent and cogent sentence without a good dose of "errrrrrrr" thrown in.
Considering the average intellect of the professional footballer, I’d probably wager he’s slightly above it.

It didn’t stop Rooney being half decent.

For the record, I’m being facetious. I can’t stand the player, but I found the comment prior a bit crass as it was clear what it was aimed at.

Shrek is a poor example there, turned into a championship level footballer when not much older than Kane is now :)

People passing up on Kane is ridiculous. 28 years old. 160 prem goals and unlike other strikers he isn’t built on speed etc. He’s similar to Lewandowksi who’s about 34 now and is in his absolute peak. Kane will be similar to that I think. So your looking at another 6 years of Kane scoring 20-30 goals a season. Haaland would be the preferred choice of course but Kane would be a unbelievable signing
Kane seems like the kind of player who, while he has added dropping back into midfield to pick up the ball and be more involved in build up play, has shown he isn’t nearly as mobile as he needs to be, not anywhere close to the age profile he needs to be for a player City can invest their future in.

- He is a good, natural finisher.
- He has little to no pace.
- He doesn’t have the mobility or industry of even a Jesus, let alone Lewandowski or Haaland.
- He is not the commanding aerial presence of a Lewandowski, Benzema, Mandzukic, Cavani or Haaland.

Harry Kane is a few things that have served him very, very well in England, however...

1) He is a good, natural finisher.
2) He is protected here.
3) He wins more fouls for stopping and falling, or sticking out his arse and attracting contact than any player in the history of English football, with the possible exception of Gareth Barry!
4) He is protected here.

All that said, Harry Kane is going to want a big, fat 5 year final contract if he moves anywhere. That’d take him to 33-34, but I predict he is going to drop off a cliff before he gets there!

For me, he’s peaked THIS SEASON, and will begin his slide next year. He doesn’t look like he has longevity written all over him, and his relationship with Son has exploded this year.

For me, he’s one ankle or knee injury away from being done.

He might be able to live on his nous for a season or two, but mechanically, he just looks like he has 2, 3 max, seasons at the top left in him.

I wouldn’t buy him for £50M, let alone £100M...plus the £12M+ per year in wages for 4-5yrs!!!

If City are going to spend that kind of money, it needs to be INVESTED IN THE FUTURE, not the past!

So you think there is an equal chance than Harry Kane and Haaland will fit into the team seamlessly?

For what it's worth i think United will sign Kane.

It will be them getting Mourinho because we got Pep all over again.

We sign Haaland and Messi, they will be desperate for a massive headline signing as a response to try and stay relevant. They have a few big squad needs, but CF is the biggest one.

If Kane really wants to move, and Levy doesn't block it out if spite, he will go to United for a British transfer record, because they like hanging their hat on those.

Yeah. IIRC Pep actually says he prefers younger players in Pep Confidential. Less baggage, less ego, more open to changing and learning.

I must say I am surprised.

I think Kane is almost the perfect fit for our team on paper and if he was 21 would be the number 1 target by a mile. He will hardly have to change at all from the way he plays now.

It's Incredibly unlikely to happen but I wouldn't be unhappy if Kane joined.

Answered your own surprise!

He isn’t, and wasn’t “Harry Kane” when he was 21, either!

When Kane was 21 he'd had multiple failed loan spells and was playing for Spurs reserves, nobody gave a fuck about him.
Haaland is 20 and breaking Champions League records.

Okay?

The point is if the choice was purely on the performances on the pitch, i.e. ignoring age, injuries etc. Kane is the best option. (after Lewandowski probably but he isn't in the conversation)

I am not saying invent a fucking time machine and sign 21 year old Kane, am I?
We wouldn't want to, he was shocking. Ask a Norwich or Leicester fan. If Haaland is this good at 20 how good can he be at the age that Kane is? They're going to cost around the same in fee and Kane would cost more in wages, there's no way we should be going for Kane.

I would be happy signing either as for me it's a better short term return with Kane vs a better long term return with Haaland.

Hypothetically if you could have one on loan for next season on the same wages who would you pick? Given after that they could never sign for City again.

Haaland will outscore Kane next season in this league if he signs for us. As for the second question if they could never sign for City again it would have to be Kane because I'd be quite happy to lose him if we could sign Haaland the summmer after.

Haaland is the answer and I think if he gets here next season, we will win the UCL regardless of what happens this year, so that’s the short term return for you

That's a huge claim. Why do you think that?

Do you think Pep is going to give up on the more defensive controlled style we have currently to go to a more transition based play that will suit Haaland's pace and first time finishing?

Based on current evidence, Haaland would be an awful fit for the current false 9 system we play. I have full faith in Pep to make it work if he does sign.

We've been playing false 9 as Aguero has missed pretty much the entire season and it suits our other options better.

Exactly. “We play a false 9” system isn’t really accurate and even less accurate is the claim that Pep likes it that way.

“Do you think Pep is going to give up on the more defensive controlled style we have currently to go to a more transition based play that will suit Haaland's pace and first time finishing?” Neither has to happen, or one isn’t necessarily excluding the other.
