I didn't see that Dick van Duck was much better than Maguire when Liverpool paid £75m for him. Also, if £45m is the going rate for Dunk, then I personally don't see £80m as being ridiculously over the top. In today's transfer market that is.

It's the precedent. Our most expensive signing is Rodri at 62m. Then Mahrez, Laporte and KDB. Imagine paying almost 20m more for someone who isn't close to any of those in terms of ability.
