Harry Maguire

I like Maguire and I’m sure he would be a success here but the fee is ridiculous. He’s not better than Laporte or Stones.

Harry is great in the air, and has the qualities Pep is looking for but he’s not a top top CB and I don’t think he ever will be.

In the CL will Harry dominate a game against PSG’s attack for example?? I think he’s more likely to make a mistake leading to a goal than to dominate that game.

Can you really see Harry shutting down top strikers?? I can’t but I can picture him conceding a penalty to Mbappé after he misjudges the ball and catches him.

£65m+ for a 3rd choice CB is just too much. You can possibly argue even 4th choice. Not sure he’s better than Otamendi tbh. He’d be great for about £40m as a squad player in the PL specifically away to teams that constantly play long balls. Even that figure pains me.

If we’re paying that much the player needs to be top 5 in their position or a unique talent like De ligt.

Rather stick with what we have. Eric Garcia is a top talent and I would have no problems seeing him next to Laporte if necessarily. Captain at all youth levels. Didn’t look out of place in the first team. Even gave instructions to Otamendi in one game. That’s called having big balls as Pep would say. The kid is ready.

If not let’s rather gamble on a young CB for a smaller fee or pay a premium and actually go for a top 5 CB like Koulibaly. Yes he would cost £100m or more but he is a player that I know would dominate the big games and I could see us winning the CL with him.
Why's it bothering you that much mate, it's not yours or my money City might be spending on him. What will be will be, might improve massively under Pep.

The only thing he needs to be able to do is pass it out from the back when under pressure. All his other defensive attributes are perfectly fine, especially as we have the ball for 70% of most games. If he can pass it around our defensive unit, calmly, accurately and with single touches of the ball when required, he'll be a success.

Interestingly, if Maguire does join us... the Rags are on to Plan C - fucked off by De Ligt and Maguire. Hopefully Pellegrini will pull their pants down for Diop who my West Ham friends tell me is bang average.

Weren't the Leicester fans saying similar about Maquire, on the Leicester forums?
(Also De Ligt has still not made his decision. Currently the rags are 3rd behind Juve and PSG in odds, ahead of Barca. Being rejected by Maquire may lead them into full blown Sanchez desperation mode, offering crazy money to De Ligt?)

Did he concede a penalty against Aguero? Or was he the main cog in a defence which kept us out until a worldie from our CB?

Let’s be honest he could have broken both Aguero’s legs and stamped on him just to make sure and still wouldn’t have given a penalty away against us. And the soft fucker was too slow to close Vinny down.

I like the fella. He looks clumsy but is actually a calm presence and is great with his feet and is great for his aerial ability. The only slight negative is a bit slow off the mark which you can get away with in a defensive side but when opponents hit us on the break that ball over the top on our left hand side would be a problem and could leave him exposed. I trust Pep with what he has in mind and end of the day we normally have at least 70% possession in each game. He would be a great addition and another string to our bow on set pieces. If signed we could potentially have a Yorkshire back 4 next season although can’t see Delph playing there ever again.

He's no slower than Vinny. I saw Maguire's debut for Leicester on the opening day away at Arsenal after they signed him from Hull.

I was like 'What the fuck' he was immense.

It was a crazy 4-3 loss, admittedly, but he was strolling out of defence like Baresi.

More importantly, I think he can help Stones out and take away some of the responsibility for the physical side of the game.

I just want someone now covering that run across our front post from corners and free-kicks because it is seriously a problem.

what fee will we be looking at tolm? it seems the £65m wont be happening?

Not a clue, I was told we thought overpriced at over £70m.

Doubt even Txiki knows at this stage.

One thing in our favour is Leicester promised the player he could leave this summer, so won't want a disgruntled player on their hands.

Especially if they need the cash to enhance their own squad.

I think the bigger Question will be how open is he to go to United especially if they make a bigger offer than us.

If we sign Maguire, we won't be paying him the sort of wages that are being bandied about for De Ligt so if you are just looking at potential transfer fees, it isn't the whole story.

Was just about to say something similar. If you look at the transfer fee alone, it looks like a no brainer to go for De Ligt ahead of Maguire. However, Maguire would probably be on about £150k a week, whereas Juve are rumoured to be offering circa £300k a week. Over a five year deal that’s an additional £40m in wages. Then you’d have the knock on effect of our other top players wanting parity. We’ve seen with United and Sanchez how destabilising that can be. Then there’s the homegrown aspect too. Obviously I’d prefer De Ligt over Maguire, but can see why the club might favour the latter.

De Ligt is reportedly on his way to Juventus. I doubt they are paying him 300k+/a week?

If Juve can afford him. I'm sure we could too.

Couple of rags I know are on holiday in Ibiza and met him yesterday. Asked him when he's signing for United and he just laughed.... Maguires brother (pissed up) started singing Blue Moon and he told him to shut up. Take from that what you will...

I am worried about him playing in a high line but we have to trust Pep. If he tried to sign Matt Rhead from Lincoln City I would still think he had a genius plan for him!

Liking his brother already.

A lot of other defenders with no pace also played a high line under Guardiola winning silverware. We'll be fine, just don't see this deal materializing however.
