Harry Maguire

80 million for Maguire is too much if reports are true. On top of that the £280k a week. I honestly don't get the hype. Is it just because he is English?

There's no way we're signing him at 280k a week. We may as well go balls deep for De Ligt or Koulibaly in that case. Unless we've already struck out with them and are blowing our wage structure to sign McGuire of all people. That seems completely out of character. The whole thing sounds like bullshit.

In the highly unlikely event that Maguire is getting that sort of wage, then Sane sure as be offered that too.

According to the BBC Gossip page it’s going to happen. The source is the Mirror so it’s probably bollocks. I really hope so. Not good enough and not worth that kind of money in a million years.

Perhaps it’s all just a ploy to get the Rags to open up their cheque book.

This is the one transfer in recent times that I cannot work out for the life of me. Goes completely against our transfer policy in recent years where we've picked up young, exciting talent for less than their market value and built them up. A 70m+ figure for Maguire would literally be us inflating the market for a mediocre CB that we don't even necessarily need that will have a poor resale value if it doesn't work out. This isn't a 'in Pep we trust' thing, we're all aware of Maguires abilities and his significant weaknesses. I'd much rather see us promote Sandler/Garcia or bring in a younger, cheaper option that Pep can work with and improve. Maguire seems like a step in the wrong direction for me. If he comes I'll support him but I'm not a fan of this if reports are believed.

I think we will add Rodri and one more signing, maybe another midfielder to cover for Merlin. I just cant see us splashing really high for a defender, but what do I know jack shit :-)

In Pep we trust.

Apart from when he’s thinking about signing this kid. He’s nowhere near the player he’ll be replacing, and however much people bang on about his qualities, he’s not and never will be good enough to take us to the next level.
Please, please, please can we get gazumped by those ****s over the road.

I could be alone here but my feel is that we're stringing the Rags along and getting them to both commit and overpay for Maguire by creating a false demand.

I don't think the club thinks like that on transfers. Trying to mess up another club matters less than getting the right player for City at the right price, and Maguire seems wrong on both counts. The reported wages don't make sense, either - 280k. a week for this OK defender while the brilliant Sane is on 60K? Shouldn't happen.

I take it you don't think Pep would improve him, even though Pep was a defender himself and he has improved mostly all his signings since hes been at City. I don't want Maguire especially for the fee quoted, im just saying.

What games do you watch? We’ve got De Bruyne, Gundogan (who wants more game time), Bernardo, Foden (who wants more game time) who all play in Merlin’s position as well as Fernandinho who can play there, Zinchenko whose natural position it is for the national team and from posts on here I believe Pep has said Mahrez can potentially play as a no.8 too.

Then in another post you say Pep was a defender, I’m confused. I know it’s early but come on.

I corrected myself regarding Pep, he wasn't a defender he was a midfielder, if you know its a mistake why are you confused. Regarding Merlin, with a team like City who play 60+ games a season and De Bruyne picks up an injury that keeps him out for months n months, like last season, Gundogan is a year older and hasn't got the legs, Fern is a DM who would not be effective in Merlins position, Foden needs time, this is why imo Pep may buy another midfielder as cover for Merlin, you don't stand still mate when your on top.

How the fuck does anybody from the Mirror know what he's going to be paid?. Simon Mullock might have inside info, but David Anderson, pmsl.

De Bruyne is unlikely to have another injury savaged season, obviously it’s possible but thinking along those lines is beyond pessimistic. Gundogan is 28/29 in October, so that’s just bollocks. Fernandinho has played as a no.8 more in his career than a no.6, he’s only really played there since he joined us. Foden needs time I agree but it’s game time and experience he needs, if we bring someone else in he’s pushed back again so it makes no sense at all.

You conveniently missed out Bernardo and Zinchenko I see, any reason?

From your posts your one of those fans that likes to stand still, well im telling you now we will win nothing next season without signings.

You say looking at players and thinking they may get injured is beyond pessimistic, well that's what Pep will be thinking, I don't think buying Rodri and cover for Merlin is bad business.
I didn't mention Bernardo because I think hes more effective on the right, Zinchenko is a left back end of.
