Hart

Aside from his opening day heroics against Spurs, and he was brilliant that day, I don't see how he's a better option than Given. Hart's distribution is better but he flaps at crosses, despite his height advantage he does not command his area any better than Given. They're both about equal when it comes to shot stopping but Given was never prone to howlers. We're fortunate to have two quality keepers but this idea that Joe is much better than Given really should be put to bed and another costly howler should see his starting position threatened.

Some absolute rubbish in there, for a start Given does not leave his 6 yard box so the whole controlling his area talk does not wash. Given is prone to errors because he is the most conservative keeper you'll ever find, see my previous comment as to why. Given is undoubtedly a very good keeper but Joe is not only better but he is young and he is the future.

As a side point, when I was in the pub earlier and I saw Hart make that error I just knew this thread would be bumped by you know who. Goalkeeping positions are never decided by the nationality of the keeper.

Just have to say! who ever is questioning Hart's ability are really quite pathetic and sad...................... Ask you selves?........ are you really a blue through and through!

For all Given's so called, (blown at of the water) weaknesses when it comes to claiming crosses, and Hart's strengths at demanding his box (agani exagerated) I've never seen Given give away a goal in the same manner that Hart did today and it cost us the win.
Given has been attacked for these weak points of his games, and I'm 100% certain had he played today and made that mistake he would have been slaugthered on here. But because it's Hart he'll get off easily.
But for all the people saying how poor Given is with dealing with the box and crosses, I've never once seen Given do what Hart did today.

Hart's had a few hairy moments this season, lets hope he's not another error prone English keeper, because today was a very much David James moment.

Hart was sensational on the opening day, but I think that since then it has been nothing special and a few bad moments, and he has gotten off lightly from it.

I don't believe that his nationality is the main reason he's starting ahead of Given, though I do think it's part of the reason.

I deffinetly think it's to do with his age. Because I've watched Given in goals for 10 plus years and I can't see how Mancini sees Hart better than him.

The only reason he's starting ahead of Given is because he's "the future."

He's overrated, he's not the best keeper at our club, never mind England. But he'll continue to get an easy ride, as he's the young English lad.

There not on the same level and if they were the same age, there is no way Hart would be starting ahead of Given.
I just hope that when we sell Given, Hart doesn't become even more prone to errors.
It's clear that he's just a little bit too comfy in goals, and God help us when Given leaves because the pressure he is under now from Given will have gone, and Taylor wont scare him for the jersey.

I bet even jesus made mistakes, nobody is perfect and thats how players improve. But i think it would be a waste of time to defend joes talent because after watching the arsenal match the quality is clearly there to see.

I couldn't disagree more to be honest. Hart, although not the finished article, is a fantastic goalkeeper capable of pure brilliance. When he was on loan at Birmingham he was absolute magic and this season for us he has been very good. He's had a few lapses in concentration but that's what happens to young goalkeepers, he'll learn from them and be a better keeper for it.

Given is a brilliant shot stopper but that isn't enough for goalkeepers these days. Controlling your area and distribution are two huge attributes for any modern goalie and Given is at an age where he isn't going to improve either. To say Given is the better keeper at this moment in time is a matter of opinion and one which I cannot agree with. Hart is our present and future goalkeeper and I'm delighted with that.

Joe hart is our future. He is one of the best in the premier league. All keepers make errors. Look at reina against arsenal and vds against west brom. Both complete fuck ups but they get over them and make sure they are infrequent. Joe has only made 2 mistakes this season.

Even with these mistakes he has still saved us a hell of a lot more points than he has cost.

Brilliance? When have you seen brilliance, because I've seen it the first day out and nothing much since.
And he was good at Birmingham, but not exactly much of a challenge at a mid table team.
That was his time to learn, he's costing us things when he's "learning" if we wanted him to lean he should still be on loan because it's too important for him to be making stupid mistakes.
I've seen "pure brilliance" from Given time and time again over the las 12 years, not just with Newcaslte but with Ireland. He's reliable, he is not error prone.
Lapses in concentration happen to poor keepers, regardless of age, I'm not saying Hart's bad, but those few lapses have cost us, and we wouldn't have gotten those "lapses" if Given had been playing. And like I said, if he is still learning, at that stage, at 23/24 years old, it's not that young, and if he's still there he should still be on loan. We can't afford costly mistakes when we have the ambitions we have.

Hart's distribution is worse than Given's at times, Given is able to control his area, but this has been really exagerated on by certain City fans so Hart looks better.
He's well able to control his defence, better than Hart. He wouldn't have gotten to where he is now if he wasn't able to do so.
And he is a much better shot stopper then Hart, no question about that.
The only thing Hart has on his side is age. And that seems enough for Mancini.
Like I said, he was too comfy in goals today, he's under no pressure, and he knows it, and he's a little bit too cocky, so God help us when Given leaves because he will only get more complacent.

His save at Arsenal was world class. He actually played well today other than that and made two good saves.

The error was a howler though to add to the one v Blackburn at home. He needs to erase this from his game.
