Has anyone put their central heating on yet?

i've not got cavity wall insulation in my house, and you can bloody tell when it turns into late autumn/winter. The heating just disappears out of the house. I can get it warm, but it will not stay warm and that racks up the bills.

I've heard mixed opinions about cavity wall insulation, and yours is not uncommon; it will create a damp bridge and cause more problems longer term. But what do i do? it's really quite chilly in my house without the heating. Surely i can increase the efficiency some how...
I'm not an expert or builder, but last year I bought my house and looked into it as there wasn't any, asked 3 builders who I know a bit socially and all 3 instantly said don't do it. My parents next door neighbour house has been sold every few years for long as I remember, it gets water down the front room walls, all of them have been told it's due to cavity being filled.
FYI, don't even start looking at the 'spray foam' loft insulation, I saw that on FB, read the comments which send a warning, then found work being done on semi detached local property....both had entire roof ripped off, as it rots the roof frame! and what they say about mortgages etc is all true (from the roofer) Best off buying a nice new coat ;)

Made it till the 1st of November. Then capitulated. Have got my granddaughter for the weekend so it will be on more .

Bloody cold this morning put it in as I got up at 6, we gave a log burner now it’s certainly helping keep the gas bill down, how it balances with the gas I don’t really know at the moment

I succumbed last night and left it on low overnight! But, as I’m going be out from about 10.00 this morning until 8.00 this evening it will be off all day today and most of tomorrow!

Not only do I get to see my beloved team for the first time in ages but I get to see my great-grandchildren (well 3 of them) today as well. Oh happy days. :-)
