When we lived over there the clued up Catalans watched the BBC news, programmes and English films, the guy in the local iron mongers even used to watch speeches on youtube by Tony Blair as he thought he sounded the most English....Find someone to practise it with.
You can find people offering services through Skype etc online.
Consume media in Spanish language.
Good luck taking chickens with you.I did do basic French at school, and suprise myself that I do recall more than I expected to. And as planning to go to France next summer (avec un chiens) was thinking about trying to learn more to help the holiday along ...
Depends on what you define as good and the language. Some are much easier than others. I think if you put the effort in, you can get to a decent communicative level (though not fluent) within 6 months.Takes a few years to get any good.
If you immerse yourself in another country no doubt it will be quicker, and other Germanic languages will be easier, but I was going off the 10k words barometer to be fluent.Depends on what you define as good and the language.
