The upper management/anyone above Pep get a large portion of the blame for perceived failures, but no credit for the absolutely unprecedented success of the last 13 years. Someone wanted Soriano fired for extending Savinho's contract the other day, and I enjoyed thinking how that meeting would go. "Listen Ferran we know you've created a group worth £5Bn like we asked you to, and we know you've overseen the club winning 21 of the 35 trophies in the club's history, but you've potentially wasted £30m on this Brazilian kid so you've got to go".

Bubble burst? Has it fuck, We've never had it so good, people just like to moan, especially on here as we are all getting older and turning into miserable old cunts.
Imagine what this place would have been like in the 80s and 90s, the ground, the chairman the team, the manager, the empty stands even the dodgy north stand scoreboard would have got it ten times worse and deservedly so.

Im guessing we are very similar ages, there are a group of people who logically started supporting city at just the wrong time ie just after the 1976 league final. 30 odd years of zip nada. 81 apart not even a semi or even many quarters(maybe 1?) Now with over 100 competitions to compete in over that time its pretty horrific for a club of our size to be that inept.

We supported them anyhow because its not really about trophies that's just a bonus. But finally it came, the big success and its been great. I wouldn't want to be a supporter who has only ever known that though, or the supporter that will accept anything to not go back to it. It was great in a different way.
I sacked the season ticket mainly for one reason, the difference between going to the match and watching it at home/pub was not worth the money imho. Im glad others think it is though otherwise the stadium would be empty.
In the pub, the ground or on here you have the negative guys the moaners the positives the clappers and those inbetween. Most people believe they are the right mix of the two. Most people would be wrong.
We have had this discussion on here periodically over the years so it's not getting worse. The game itself though is constantly moving away from what it was. It will be discussed and the owners come into that.
What people need to understand is the owners are not and have never done any of this for us. Thats not having a go at them, im genuinely apathetic towards them. They don't need defending they aint going anywhere because bigblue1972 has a pop on a forum. They will go or stay if it benefits them. In the meantime you have the right to disagree with them, its your club.

I would actually enjoy reading a retro blue moon from the 80's......my car got smashed because I didn't give em money, the club needs to sort this........ queues round the ground for tickets.... atmosphere is shit .....Steve Kinsey is shit etc etc etc
 
Been a blue for 40 years and we have never ever been as good as it is now and as a casual match going fan nowadays, Yes tickets have been easier to get hold of in the past but that’s because we weren’t watching multiple premier league champions. So the demand wasn’t as high. Used to walk away from Maine road nearly every week disappointed but still kept returning and having a great time.

I will say this though. I’ve noticed that with the charges, the constant accusations of cheating, the constant legal battles, the constant media barrage of abuse that has become so tedious and left me feeling somewhat numb towards football at the moment and the criminally silent stance of the club to defend its fans against the sunami of shit we read, It feels like no matter what we do, we won’t ever get the full recognition of our achievements which gives me the slight feeling of what’s the point? I know I shouldn’t care about what others think but I can’t help it. I love my club, and like anything I love, if it’s dragged through the mud constantly and consistently then it is going to have a detrimental effect to my feelings and emotions. To be so unrecognised as the brilliant champions we’ve been just makes me feel like we are fighting a losing battle and with that it becomes draining, Less enjoyable and more like I feeling I can do without.

Also on side note, I absolutely despise VAR, it’s killed that spontaneous feeling a goal gives. Don’t care if it’s offside or whatever crap they come out with. At least a referees mistake was made in that one moment, VAR just feels like result manipulation at times and takes away that burst of energy and emotion a goal gives. That has a lot to answer for aswell imo.
 
At my age, my Dad a lifelong fan had stopped attending, his Dad was dead from a heart attack, but had supported City all his life.
It's natural that at a certain age people stop attending, older people don't like change and they do like to point out what is wrong with their World.
I decided on Saturday that I will revise my own situation in 13 years at 80 (God willing).
If I ever get round to writing down my experiences of being a blue, it will be titled "Happy Clapper"

They even purposely keep us in the dark, don’t allow fan groups to attend all meetings and even when they do they make them sign NDAs. Manchester City is our club, not theirs, they just happen to be employed by the club at this moment in time and at some point in the future they’ll be long gone and we’ll still be here.

No fans on the board, no fan consultations before things happen, 13 price rises in 16 years, some as high as 12%, people pulling out of Cup Schemes to make up for that, people feeling they have to give up their STs because they’re priced out or are sick of not enjoying the ‘matchday experience’ aimed at a faceless worldwide fanbase, increasing number of ticket tout partners added to the club’s list, only reducing £78 tickets for adults and £48 tickets for children after fan protests and would have made them even more expensive if we hadn’t protested, not replacing lapsed ST holders with new ST holders for a number of years, making it harder for ST holders to transfer tickets, increasing number of tourists surrounding us at games, more neutrals, non-City fans and away fans surrounding us at games while we see mates give up their STs because they’re sick of it, dead atmospheres becoming more of a correlating feature as all this grows…

They do a lot of things right, but they do a lot of things wrong and as I say, it’s our club. These people aren’t just providing an entertainment destination for us to attend a few times a month; this football club is part of the history and culture of this city and it’s citizens. We live and breathe this club every day and care about it more than any employee at the club could ever dream of doing.

There’s good reason to be pissed off with them. Decimating a club’s support is a fucking disgrace. And that’s what they’ve done. It’s happened at Chelsea too in the decades since their takeover, so it’s not just a City problem. Happened to United though the 90s and 00s, and will probably happen to Newcastle over the next few decades.

These fanbases are what made English football great. We should be held in the highest regard by our clubs’ boardrooms and we are treated like we’re a fucking nuisance they could do without.

At one time you could go anywhere in the country, or abroad on holiday, and get a conversation about football going and mention you were a City fans and you’d get instant respect. Now it’s almost embarrassing saying you’re a City fan and you often have to start a conversations by justifying that you are someone who was there from decades gone by when we were shit. And it’s the club who’ve done that to us.

Anyone happy that two dozen of their friends and family don’t come to City games anymore and are sat at home watching games, just because City have been successful in the last 15 years, are not cottoning onto the problem and are only contributing to the problem. Because eventually it will all end, whether that’s City’s individual success or the PL bubble finally bursts and we see a decline as a league… what will clubs be left with then?

Big stadiums and an alienated disenfranchised local support who don’t got to games anymore and are used watching games at home or used to doing other things with their time. The culture of fanbases, cities and the country altered. Football is as big a part of English/British culture as anything else. It should not be allowed to be taken away from us just because board members and execs at clubs want their bonuses for hitting revenue targets at the end of the year.

We should be holding every single decision that isn’t in the best interests of local and core supporters of this football club, in the highest of scrutiny, forever more! Every set of fans in this country should be coming together to combat what every boardroom is doing to their fanbases. The people of this country are too passive. In Germany, about 12 years ago, every fanbase in the league marched in their tens of thousands because a few individual clubs upped ticket prices. Here, we just shrug our shoulders and call each other ungrateful just because we’ve lifted a few pots and pans over the last decade and a half.

A fanbase should never let up on being hard-lined and demanding. Until the protests last year, it felt like we were far too passive with it. It probably got ten years too far down the line before we starting reacting to it sufficiently as a set of fans.

Football clubs and their fanbases are part of the history and culture of the cities and countries they come from. Clubs should never be allowed to have their fan cultures changed because that also alters the culture of our cities and country. History and culture are more important than short term business plans.

I’ve said this a lot recently, but core football fanbases should be sacrosanct to their clubs. Does anyone feel like we are to the City board/execs or that any clubs’ fans are in the PL?

I’m not sure about that. I perceive a split between younger, newer fans and us FOCs. What the relative numbers are I obvs don’t know. Older fans seem very cross about the high level management and the ticketing policy ignoring traditional fans whereas the younger brethren are disappointed by on field matters. I suspect changes to policy will come, if slowly, and Pep will deliver more silverware so everybody can go home happy!
