Correct but anyone who was old enough to see Mexico 70 would have to say NO, this is not the best so far - extremely good though it has been!
Only 4 groups and no last 16 in 1970 but it was for the most part a great competition.
England 0 - Brazil 1 - Best W/C save ever (Banks), Pele vs Moore
Itally/Uraguay/Sweeden group - Every game was so, so close. Even Israel (the so called minows) played well.
England 2 - Germany 3 (aet) - Self destruction by England (or Beckenbauer brings Germany back from the dead) in the Q/F
Uruguay 1- Brazil 3 - Brazil Come back to win - Uruguay so close on a number of occasions - cracking S/F.
Italy 4 - W.Germany 3 (aet) - The heavyweights trade punch for punch in a breathtaking game (Beckenbauerin a sling as no subs left) S/F.
Brazil 4 - Italy 1 - Breathtaking last 30 mins from Brazil in the final to win.
