Has this season turned the laws of the game a farce?

I wasn’t having a go by the way mate I’m just genuinely amazed by the reactions to it. If you’re running full pelt and someone stands on your weight bearing foot then you’re going to hit the deck whether you like it or not.

Of all the controversy surrounding VAR I just feel this is just about as clear cut decision as you can get. In fact I watched the match with the commentary off so I was oblivious to any sense of controversy - I was expecting the reaction at half time to be “this is an example of where VAR works”.

Just a debate didn’t think you was having a pop. You are running and I stamp on your foot two things happen. One foot stays planted the injured one comes up and you fall down. You do not take a couple of strides and throw both knees and arms in the air. It’s a dive the delay proves it and so does the reaction. Whether you think massively exaggerating contact to show the ref you have been touched is valid is a matter of personal choice.

Like a player who gets touched throws himself to the ground rolls over a few times then looks at the ref with his arm in the air. No one tripped and genuinely losing their balances ever does this. Like the the spurs one the other month(son) he waited that long to throw himself to the ground It looked really bad. I would book them all.

We’re conflating two issues here though. It’s a cast iron penalty whether you think mahrez made the most of it or not. For what it’s worth I’d say having your foot stood on in full flight like that means you’re going down regardless.

I fully agree with your contact doesn’t = a foul but I don’t think this is one of those occasions.

It is a penalty! You can't deny a penalty when someone trips you by standing on their instep. Old Mother Riley has come out already and noted that among the 'VARce mistakes' were the David Silva instep where we didn't get one. The problem these days among almost every Whistling Wanker employed by PiGMOL is that unless there is a hystero-theatrical slump to the ground yer not gonna get it. Atkinson had set his face against that pen last night, and for once VARrce found in our favour. The last 150 seasons were a lottery about whether yer got a pen or not, unless the WW was OMR at The Swamp and then it was always mandatory, and now VARce has maintained that tradition by adding on a whole raft more penalties that would never have been given. The game has drifted from unsatisfactory in terms of arbitration to a sheer bloody shambles.

And as for 'contact'! This came solely out of the MotD studio and the mouths of ex-pros who, when trying to justify a pen for the team they played for, conjured up the notion of 'contact' as though this were writ large in the LotG. FFS, football is/was a contact sport but it hasn't stopped the likes of fourteen stone giants toppling to the ground as though a defence is armed with chainsaws! TIMBER!

Sending off was harsh imo as replays show its the attacker that initiates the contact, not Ederson but id have wanted it so no real complaints.

Penalty is nailed on. Foot and ankle stood on in the box, its a penalty all day long.

Retakes are a joke and nearly caused a fucking riot last night. Credit to Raz for thinking the same and nearly fucking it up twice though.

Ref fell for some of the worst diving ive seen as they attempted to get us down to 9 men and he gave them free kick after free kick that second half to build the pressure although our own sloppy play and inability to keep the ball helped that.

We deserved and got fuck all last night, we where utter bobbins.

The Tottenham game was the one for me last year, what’s the point in celebrating a goal when it could well be disallowed five minutes later. It seems that agendas can be delivered, Llorente handling, our offside in the last minute and VAR is definitely ruining football. I’m well and truly pissed off with the authorities trying to influence results, maybe I’m reading too much into things but that’s how it seems to me. The handball at Liverpool another total game changer, how does that not get given?

Agree, but what I couldn't get was how long it took VAR to decide. The commentary even said they were reviewing the build up? Felt like they were looking for any reason not to give it and in the end simply couldn't find one.
I would fuck VAR right off, blue tinted lenses maybe but it feels like every VAR decision affecting us is to try to find a reason not to give a decision whereas some other (not all) teams seem to be treated differently.
