Have City been the love of your life?

From my first game watching my namesake's home debut in the 1958 dark side derby to last Sunday sitting in my recliner armchair amid crisps and Becks - I have been a devoted follower.
Not sure I'd describe it as love though.

I love city in a similar way to how I love my kids. It's completely unconditional, in that I expect nothing in return, and always has been. They might, occasionally, mildly disappoint me but I'm never disappointed for very long. I can never envisage a time when I won't want them in my life, no matter where they've ended up or what they've done. They can make me smile at the oddest of times and make me unreasonably anxious at others. I suppose it's in the DNA. You stick with them, no matter what; you accept their flaws and even notice some of them yourself. But if others point those self same flaws out to you, it's all out attack, in defence of that which you love. City, what a pleasure it's been.
Absolutely spot on. I once missed a match because my (late) wife was ill with a sickness bug. She insisted that I go to the match but she was more important on the day, so I stayed at home.
Now she's no longer with us, I have no excuses, other than if the kids need me. As they are 33 and 29, they can look after themselves!

You can divorce a wife you once thought was the love of your life (or vice versa). You can never divorce City.

Very true.

Loving City is like the love you have for your children - unconditional.

They can delight you or disappoint you but you will always love them.
