- We went to Rotherham…
Colin Bell and Mike Summerbee for me.
Why would we want to profit on players? We could have easily sold Kompany, Zaba, Aguero, Silva, etc., at their height and made millions, but what’s the point? You play football to win, not to talk about how much profit your club makes. We rarely profit on a player though, do we? Was money made on Nasri or Jovetic?
Kompany was outstanding in his debut v West Ham. Everyone was buzzing that we’d found a player. And he was in midfield at the time.
No disrespect to Wolfsburg and Roma but City require more from a striker. A club with our ambitions don’t build a team around a player like Dzeko. Lewandowski might have been a better idea. He cost Dortmund pennies from Poznan.
We don't buy players to profit on them, that's why. Clubs in the lower half of the table or clubs who have owners driven by taking money out of the business. Joventic had a nightmare with injuries and Nasri paid back his transfer fee with 2 leagues and other trophies - we bought him at 24 and he left at 30, hardly designed to make profit...
Franny was our record signing at the time and although Colin was a relative bargain, £45k wasn't exactly chicken feed. How far we going back? King Colin, Franny and Buzzer didn't work out too bad :-)
