Have we done enough in the transfer market?

Don't forget that Liverpool are facing a significant rebuild of their own, with Salah, VVD and Arnold all out of contract this summer.
Cheers.

The task to rebuild our side is far greater in scope than Liverpool's. We've done basically nothing at all in terms of recruiting top talent for the past 2 or possibly even 3 years (with some notable exceptions) - and all the while our players are getting older and older.

Consequently - our rebuild next summer is going to have to be massive - and the players we bring in will have to make immediate impact for us to even get close to challenging for the title. It's not as if we can bring in one or two more players and everything's great.

If we have a very good transfer window next summer, maybe we're top 2 or 3 in the P/L with a shot at first.

It'll take a second successful summer transfer window, IMO, for just to be favorite for the league.

There’s been an attritional running down of the squad over 4 years, we obviously haven’t done enough to address that in January but it lightens the load for summer.

As excited as I am about Khusanov and Reis, I would have preferred a 26 year old to walk straight in.

At this point, we need more Yayas and less Nastasics. Wirtz, Musiala, Frimpong, etc should be the type of summer target. We need ready made top quality who are still young like when we bought De Bruyne and Sterling.

Realistically we need to move on Walker, Kev, Gundo, Stones, Ake, Phillips, perhaps Nunes, Ederson, perhaps Doku, and perhaps Silva all on permanent deals within a 2 year period. We dont have time to develop players like at a Sporting and the Premier League is becoming so competitive now that I'm not sure we could risk it anyway.

Out of all the positions, goalkeeper is the one that we must get right. Our style of play breaks down more with the wrong goalkeeper than it does with thr wrong midfielder and there's so few high quality young keepers out there. The Ukrainian lad at Benfica is the next big thing but he won't fit us. Kobel probably the wrong side of 26 now and similarly is not Ederson with his feet.

The type of player we try to get this summer is really going to show the competence at the club and whether we've succumb to the arrogance that allowed us to rise above the red cartel in the first place. We have to sign elite talents, not presume we can carry through.
But when have we signed elite talents, with exception of Haaland. Most players we signed got hugely better as part of the city machine. Whether that continues is a matter for debate but I’d like to think it will

I’d rather be City with our resources trying to replace KDB than Liverpool with their resources trying to replace Salah

So, basically we haven’t recruited top talent since the 115 charges were made 2 years ago (almost to the day) and now the board KNOW the outcome we are recruiting top talent again?

We need to replace KDB, Gundo, Walker, possibly Ederson - Kovacic and Silva are getting old too... LB (Gvardiol is great going forward but terrible on D - maybe he's OK on D at CB - beats me).

Our back line has been shit this season too for whatever reason. Dias is solid. But Stones is always injured, Akanji has had a dip in form... so who knows what shape our back is going to be in next season?

I'd much, much rather be Liverpool looking to replace Salah should he leave than us facing a massive rebuild with no guarantee of initial success.

Walker has barely played and been largely woeful when he has so any replacement will be an improvement on the Walker we have now

Liekwise, Kevin and Gündy look to be past it. We’re not replacing the players they were in their prime, we’re replacing their current contributions. Not a tall order, really

Will the players we sign be as good as all of those lads were at their best? Maybe, maybe not. But as a baseline they just have to be an improvement on what we have now

Salah’s goals and assists this season account for fully 60% of Liverpool’s league goals. That’s what they have to replace. Plus their captain and defensive organizer, and Alexander-Arnold’s contributions

So glad we finally got a Rodri beckup but why no Walker replacement? We are missing a RB. Wirtz, Olmo & Cambiasso should be our Summer targets. If we get them, we won't need any new player for the next 2 years minimum.

Don't think we could have expected much more from the January window but that said, i think we need to replace some big hitters in the summer. Probably need two new keepers, KDB is the big one as he's been the primary source of creativity in this squad for the best part of a decade so needs to be of similar ability. Easier said than done haha. Minimum of another 5 in the summer.

We've certainly been active. Cannot knock the club for taking action now (should have done something earlier though in the previous couple of windows). But, all new signings come with risks. That said, I like what I have seen of Marmoush and it's only a matter of time before he starts making an impact. Not so sure about Khusanov yet until he can speak English (maybe he can learn some hand signals in the interim LOL), but I think Khusanov has potential and the required physicality if he can be coached to avoid unnecessary yellow/red cards. I hope Gonzales can settle in quick. No idea about the other guys - look more like one's for the future, but only time will tell. Come on City!

For a January window we can't ask for more really. We've done all we can and the guys we've brought in look really promising, even the young lads. There's a player in Khusanov.

The poof of the pudding is in the eating, and that will come at the end of the summer window. Or really, around this time next year.

Personally I think we've had a great window, I just hope the new guys are playing sooner rather than later and they kick start better performances all round!
Personally I think we might have wasted a lot of hard earned money in a panic buying splurge. But I may be wrong and most certainly hope I am.

Personally happy with the window. In an ideal world have a liked a named right back who can also play alongside Gonzo but maybe it was now or be gazumped for Reis , Kusa or even both.

Great business but as others have said frustrating that we seem to have sat on our hands since 115 were announced. Add this stagnation to squad development to the public image damage done to the club by the charges and it pissed me right off.
If we are innocent then I hope the club is vindictive enough to have a similar impact on those responsible.

The figure of 5 may seem a bit high to some but I think the departures will facilitate it. Who those departures are remain to be seen but a few will go no doubt, with maybe the odd surprising one.

Time will tell but I don't think we could expect any more in terms of numbers coming in. We couldn't act earlier because the window only opened January 1st. We couldn't have predicted Bobb, Rodri and all the other injuries would happen it was just bad luck. There have been numerous other reasons for the poor results, whether that be a drop.in form, an ageing squad, Walkers losing a yard.of pace, players playing when half fit, maybe the lack.of holidays this year due to the cwc have had an effect on.players moral...I'd be miffed at having 2 weeks holiday taken off me..anyway the club have backed Pep again...time for him to work his magic with the new posse. Up the blues....keep the faith.

The thing is we do what is possible, not what we ideally want. So a suitable right fullback was not possible, despite our obvious desire to sign one.

Have we don’t enough in the transfer market?

Nowhere near yet. It’s going to take around four Transfer Windows to get right what we’ve drifted into being recently, and it’s unlikely we’ll never see a team like 2017-2024 ever again.

We need to secure a long term #1 goalkeeper.
We need a right back.
We need a few creative midfielders who’re going to be long term replacements for De Bruyne, David Silva, Gündoğan and Bernardo Silva because we currently have none in the squad who are going to step into their shoes (when at one time we had all four of them in their prime).
We need to move on about 6 or 7 players, and depending on where they play, we may need to sign replacements if it leaves us short in certain positions.
Then we will likely need to buy English/home grown players (as some we move on will likely be E/HG).
