Completely agree with this, would be nice though if we could get in a CB this window.

LB is far more important IMO. We don't have a complete LB. We really need one if we want to compete at the very top. Neither Clichy nor Kolarov are the answer.
Not many left backs out there better than Clichy. I'd say Alaba, Cole, Coentrao are better and that's it.

Clichy gets a lot of love on here but he is not a complete LB. He really offers very little going forward. If I was running things I would make a serious effort to bring in Coentrao. He offers the best of Clichy and Kolarov.

-- Thu Aug 08, 2013 1:55 pm --

Definitely think we need one more centre back, but it's good we've kept Joleon after he was rumoured to be on the way. He's still a decent player and pretty good for games against the likes of Stoke and Sunderland.

As for a left back, as NoahCity says Clichy is one of the best around. But we do need back up as Kolorov can't defend. Or pass. Or run very fast. Or mark people. Anyway, doesn't look like we're in the market for a LB so I guess we'll have to hope Clichy stays fit all season and doesn't get any red cards!

I just see it differently from 99% on here about Clichy. He is one of the best around at defending....but he is a pretty one-dimensional LB.

Kolarov is ok I think, and his attacking play is helpful against teams that will sit back a lot as he has a mean cross on him. However, I seem to rememeber Zab doing well in a game against Arsenal in the title winning season, so perhaps if Pellegrini doesn't trust Kolarov, he can use Zab. CB is what we need before window closes. It'd be nice to get a quality alternative in for Barry/Garcia too but I doubt that will happen. For LW, I think Lopes actually plays there so he might get some minutes this season hopefully.

IMO we have tried to get clubs to make serious bids for Barry but to no avail. Nearest one we have got in respect of Sinclair is a bidding war between Stoke, West Brom, Everton and Newcastle and in looks like none of them have a pot to piss in so it looks like a loan deal to West Brom.

As for Kolorov looks like no one wants to pay the miserly 6m valuation we have put on him so thats a no go.

Boyata seems to have been given a second chance. Kolorov is back up for Clichy, if Boyata can improve he will tide us over for this season.

Next season I would suspect that we witify early doors like last season the targets we want which could include any of the following.

Pants - back up keeper required will be at end of contract.
Lescott - end of contract
Barry - end of contract
Kolorov - one year left on contract
Boyata if he doesn't come up to proof - end of contract.
Garcia - will have 2 years left on contract.

As for incoming Rekik will be back from a seasons loan and depending on how he does he could be the ideal replacement for Lescott.

Only defenders therefore we will have on the books next season therefore will be

Zab, Richards, Kompany, Nastisic and Clichy. IMO that will mean we will need

Back up keeper. Right footed centre back, left footed centre back/Rekik and back up left back. Another midfield player to either replace Barry and or Garcia.

I just can't see the current management letting Lescott Barry and Boyata all leaving on a free. I would let Barry and Lescott go this window for a fee if they don't sign 1 year contract extensions.

I'd say we are open to sales but not forcing. Clubs would have been made aware and prices set. Lescott and Barry will be happy to stay due to wages, Lescott maybe less so but Barry is staying and then a bosman next season. Lescott will stay imo but wouldn't be shocked if he went. Kolarov I think will go, back to Italy. Next year they are gone regardless, same as Sinclair.

I think with the new additions, Clichy/Zab will not be used as much to give us width going forward.
They will be defenders first and foremost.

Have we found a buyer for Barry?

-

Scott Sinclair, Garth Barry and Denis Suarez, who have all been linked with moves away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, were left behind in Manchester as Pellegrini arrived with a 21-man squad.

Asked if they are now set to leave the club, the Chilean added: ‘We’ll see next week. Scott Sinclair is not here with the squad. Scott is in Manchester. Denis Suarez, Gareth Barry and Scott Sinclair are in Manchester.’

I hope barry is not going

I'm upset about Suarez leaving but it's our own fault for not giving him an opportunity. Hopefully with the next gen they'll get a chance to play a bit
