we have thrown away probably 10 points this season that would have made all the difference. Stoke City away, West Brom, away Newcastle,
home Liverpool, home Spurs--that's 15, minimum 13, points we should have had and we got all of 1 out of them. In contrast, I can only think of two points we pulled back from a losing position (Blackburn away and Newcastle away...of course we should never have been in that position in that match) and only two matches in which we beat a really good team that we weren't expected to beat (Arsenal, albeit with many key players for them out, and Schalke). The squad is certainly better but our team spirit has not been as good this year as most of last year, though there have been a few quite good performances at home.
Overall I think it's fair to say that if we can't get to 7th place this season, the season should be regarded as a failure (unless we win the UEFA Cup). 100 million or whatever the figure is should be enough to get you from 9th to 7th over the course of the season.
