Same feelings about Elano, but less so. He did put a shift in occassionally and we do miss his creativity in midfield in my view. If we had Ireland or Johnson filling that role it wouldn't be so bad, but neither of them have been able to do so for different reasons. With all our current midfielders (with the possible exception of grandad Viera) we don't have anyone who can pick a decent forward pass.
Tin hat on here, but I think that Robbie could do an excellent job for us as an attacking midfielder.
Some of his assists last season were fantastic - as good as if not better than his goals.
He could also be expected to chip in with say 15 goals of his own, similar to Lampard, excluding the penalties.
Barry and NDJ to provide defensive cover that you are not going to get from Robby.
Something needs to be done to get his confidence up, and whilst i fully agree with everyone's comments about him being a lazy s*d and allegations of disrespectful comments i can't help thinking we haven't yet seen the best of him and maybe playing in the CL will spur him on to do better.
For this season, nah, it's too critical at this stage and we need all hands to the pumps.
