My youngest, 30, has always, since she could speak, told the eldest, 33, that she was adopted. Hours of family merriment to be had by all.

Mine are 12 & 15, no favourite at all, completely different characters, neither any trouble whatsoever, and they get along like best mates......but if one does anything wrong, the others first line will be "adoption is an option".

I have a favourite child. I never say which of them it is, and I treat them all the same.

However, all three know very well which one it is.
