Health anxiety

You’ve done the right thing going to see your GP. I think if they thought it was a leukaemia they’d have sent you straight away to a specialist. They have your best interests at heart and will sort you out. Anxiety definitely throws up some unusual symptoms. Your family love you and want to help. Try not to shut them out. A problem shared really does make it feel better, so keep on telling us how you feel, we want to help.

Good shout, ok here goes

I'm very active and noticed a pain in my groin about 4 months ago but brushed it off as a muscle strain. No rest of recovery has seen it improve. Last weekend noticed lumps in either groin (assumed enlarged lymph nodes), had pains in my leg latter part of this week, stomach pains, nausea cold hands and feet and itchy skin, hoping many of those will be anxiety relayed but who knows!

I've convinced myself I have lukemia.

I've never had any sort of feeling like this (Not being mentally strong) so I'm really struggling to properly manage it.

I'm a rational person and know full well I'm not helping myself by googling and getting worked up about it but I can't help myself.
Many of the symptoms you describe are anxiety related but you should be checked out by your GP. He will hopefully reassure you that you have nothing physically wrong with you, however if you fail to accept that reassurance and continue to worry or find new symptoms to worry about then you are probably suffering from a health anxiety and CBT could be helpful. You’re GP will be able to give you details of your local therapy services or if you are relatively local PM me I may be able to give you the details you need.

Instead of googling your symptoms google Health Anxiety self help, the Northumberland self help website is good and has a number of leaflets available for you to download free of charge

Good advice. Lots of areas of the Country have added to their on-line resources to support people struggling with anxiety. I’ve seen references to this on social media for Manchester and Yorkshire too.

I’m a 58 year old bloke and google told me I may be pregnant last year when I put my symptoms forward!

Trust the doctors pal, don’t panic and hope all is well.

were you? could be a nice little earner that

“Dr Google” is not good.
I know that to my own experience. I had what I thought was an ulcer on the back right hand side of my tongue for weeks. Googled it and Dr Google told me if the ulcer had been there for longer than 3 weeks it was probably mouth cancer.
Went to see my GP told him what I had read on the internet and he then googled it himself ( They have access to websites we don't I am told ).He sent me to the hospital for a biopsy on my tongue where a nurse had a look and chopped a bit off.
After a 3 week wait of worry and the ulcer still there I went back to see a consultant. The first thing he said when I walked in the room was do not worry there is nothing wrong with you and looked into my mouth.
He went mad wanting to know who had examined me before the biopsy. Turned out one of my wisdom teeth had started growing again and as it was serrated was cutting into the side of my tongue and it needed removing.
Dr Google caused me over a month of needless anxiety.

Health anxiety is a terrifying, lonely place to be in that I'm sure we all experience at some point.
11 years ago I had Testicular cancer, mentaly I was fine, I dealt with it and moved on. But 5 years ago (during Pep's first 4 months in charge) I developed nervous problems and this time I did not mentaly deal with it properly. Made the mistake of 'googling' and self diagnosed MS/MND/Parkinsons or something. I had all the symptoms. I turned into an absolute wreck, '35 years old and my son is only 2, life is not meant to be like this'.
After 4 months the symptoms went away one after the other and by December I was back to normal.
Google is NOT the answer, the Doctor is. And sometimes our bodies just do weird things.

Cheers, hoping I'm in a similar position!
