Heat Pump

The system has worked in Scandinavia for years, apparently it's the installation teams that are not up to speed or clueless.

Just been on Heat Geek, typed in my address, amended my property details from 2 bathrooms to 1 bathroom and got a clear and well laid out instant quote for a heat pump, installation, heat Geek Assurance and yearly saving. You can’t fault that as there’s no hidden extras or a person doing they survey and coming up with a figure off the top of their head.

According to Heat Geek, my property isn’ eligible for a BUS grant. Out of interest, I’d like to find out why.

That doesn't make any sense. There is no point of installation this way. I was checking rhode island energy reviews these days, curious if they might have some better options for their customers. Anyone had experience with them? What can you say - good or bad?

Don't need to replace the window frames, can buy the glass if the units have now failed and just refurb the seals and take them strips off and foam round the frame if there are gaps. I plan to do all this in the coming months, have to replace the hinges on a couple too, alot cheaper than fully replacing perfectly good frames.
Those tidy strips aren’t too bad once cleaned up. Just a mould spray (one where you need mask and gloves), peel off any old caulk and reapply mould resistant sealant (bathroom/kitchen grade) where there’s no painting needed like the windowsill. As you say though, it’s worth knowing the state of the walls under them, expect bits of plaster and plasterboard to come away. I found a gap to the outside world on one of my windows so had to pump expanding foam into it. Could start getting time consuming for anyone not keen on DIY.

So spend £12k and get £70 per year back as savings. It would take you 171 yrs to recoup the outlay.

I’ve not had chance to read the thread but there was something on the BBC website about how they are starting to improve the temperature of these heat pumps. Not sure if already posted.

Sounds promising that they might be improving.

Have you got a current EPC certificate on the property?

Yep as @Citizen of Legoland said you need an EPC. Just had a look at mine and it’s 17k without the discount, 9.5k with the discount and will save about £330 per year so it’s still around 29 yrs to break even.

They need to make it cheaper so the break even is around 8-10yrs, which pushing it, is about the life of a good combi boiler.

I agree with you. I did a double take when I saw that. i’ll probably be dead in 30 years or sooner. I’m 56 years old.
